I talked to Rodney S. Taylor, Chief Engineer, at the Shot Show in Las Vegas. He said that the .22 ammunition is the Company's mainstay, by far the majority of the ammunition that they produce. Much of the Ammunition goes to the Central and South America markets. Aquila made the decision to significantly increase production a couple of years ago. Their machinery is state of the art, an almost completely automated, top of the line, process. Last year, in 2015, they increased their production by close to 30%, producing somewhat less than a billion rounds of ammunition. I recall a figure being mentioned of about $2 million dollars being invested in .22 rimfire production last year.

Wow! I haven’t seen those in years! First box I ever bought was back in 1961, 45 cents. I was 14, cash and carry, no paperwork. Now I have to be 21 to buy!
Do they use round BBs or some special type of projectile?
Looked at their online site and see some but a lot seems to out of stock. But thanks for the heads up. I have plenty right not but you never know. Got a bargain by chance after a widow lady unloaded all of her deceased’s ammo and guns. Got about 5000 rds REAL cheap. Lucky we just happened to walk in when we did. When we asked the store owner how long the hubbie had been dead he said 3 days prior. OUCH!
I’ve got one of those tiny #4 Rolling Blocks in .22 short. Actually shot it at a long range Cowboy match. Longest target was a small steel buffalo at 250 yards. We had to take out our ear plugs to hear the bullet hit.
I have not found it in most of their stores at this price or consistently available in bulk.
However, they opened a new store last year near my house. They kept a pallet of it on the shelves from months. The first few weeks that sold an immense amount but it became clear they were prepared for the volume. There has remained a choice of brands in bulk every day.
We have a Gamo Varminter .177 cal. It has the velocity of a .22 if you use the raptor pellets which are shaped more like a projectile. Or you can also use a round pellet(BB).
Can you kill a deer at longer ranges.
Just doing the math in my head, I think you qualify.

Wish I still had it. My dad bought it in a pawn shop for 5 bucks in the late 50’s. No wood or firing pin. I made a firing pin out of a drill bit shank with a bench grinder and made some furniture out of some pine. Shot good but was never really happy with the wood I made. Tried to find pictures to duplicate the wood but could never find any and Remington said they had no info on it as it was too old and all their old records were in storage. Sold it to a friend for 20 bucks. Bought a tank of gas, a burger and a shake and left town in 1967.

Having been almost forced back into air rifles because of the last couple of years, my own .22LR needs have been cut back to a small fraction of what I used to go through, and though I'm getting back to using a Ruger Mark III again, the new shooters will have to take up my slack.
I used to use Aguila ammunition some years ago when it was the ammo of last resort, and I gave up on it. Now that some of what I used to consider "better" ammo has apparently abandoned QC, maybe I should give it another chance. Has anyone here had good results with recent lots of Aguila's standard velocity stuff?

The Friends of NRA group in my area is currently doing a drawing that includes four .22 firearms and 13,000 rounds of .22 ammo. That would be a heck of a jackpot.
When we were kids about that timeframe we would kill groundhogs anyway we could. The farmers association had a $0.50 bounty on them. Then we would trade the feet and the tail for 22 at the local hardware store. Good times.
I can’t myself, and if I could I’d belong in the circus.
I remember seeing 1960s adds in the back of Progressive Farmer magazine offering cash for rat tails.
I also remember stories of Texas counties offering bounties on jackrabbit scalps back in the “hard times”.
I blew through 500 rounds of Aquila 9mm last weekend. No failures. It was all new stock. I had similar bad results as you in the past. The 9mm cost me an hour of work so it was “free”.
Air rifles are pretty good and have a legitimate place in an arsenal, but they cannot replace a 22 in effectiveness, range, and rapidity of use.
And with 22 pistols the air world has no effective competitor.
Aguila makes some fine ammunition, in many calibers. Their 38 Super is better than what we make domestically.
