To: Marcella; All
My deepest condolences to you and all of those who were fortunate enough to know and love this wonderful man, even if we never actually met him. He will remain a presence in our lives forever.

"Farewell to Thee! But not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of Thee;
Within my heart they still shall dwell
And they shall cheer and comfort me.
Life seems more sweet that Thou didst live
And men more true Thou wert one;
Nothing is lost that Thou didst give,
Nothing destroyed that Thou hast done."
Anne Bronte

God bless you, Johnny. Rest in peace.

I’ve been potting up seeds this week - tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. Potted up the last (ok, only ones that produced) of the garden tomatoes’ seeds a month ago so those are 6-8”. Sowed Chinese celery last year but they didn’t come up so am potting them this year. Silly me, only had one tomatillo plant last year and they need friends. Couldn’t find any local seeds so bought a couple fruits at the grocery for seeds. This year, they’ll have friends.

The flats are in the cats’ sunny window so, of course, they trampled through it all this morning.

Temps are in the 50s and 60s so the only things in the garden are collards and mustard greens. The ginger has been dug and in the freezer. Yum, ginger/lemon/honey tea! And I should pick some more pecans but shelling the little buggers is time consuming.

Sorry. The screen was a bit blurry. I hope this one is better.

Do you ever plant by phases of the moon? Lunar gardening. I’m trying it this year. But that will be a while yet as we’re still in the 20’s and 30’s here.

I wonder if any of the gardeners here are lunar gardeners. If so, I wish they’d identify themselves so we could chat and compare experiences and notes.

I’m thinking copious use of the heating pad and absolutely no laying on that side will help - may take a few days.

I love pecans, but they are difficult in the Missouri climate. So far the native walnut trees are the only nuts we have had any luck with.

Been snowing here, too. Not much going on. Still adding to
the compost bin as we have for 30 yrs. now. Husband has
started burning printed stuff in the wood heating stove; so
I guess he’s not going to put any more ashes on the garden.
We have built up the soil until it’s in pretty good shape.
Have had a limited amount of garden vegs and fruits. Good
organic tomatoes. - Houseplants aren’t doing all that well.
I rubbed the clay pots in sweetened yogurt. A mistake. The
sugar just sabotaged things and made the pot a streaked
black fungus color. I put half an aspirin in both pots and
watered them; hope that helps. Winter’s difficult. Having
to keep the woodstove going all the time. It could be
worse! - I don’t think we are really able to have a very
large garden any more. I’ve had to accept limitations on
what I’m able to do. :o( Used to freeze a lot of stuff;
don’t feel like doing it now. So I do what I can do.
