After a battle-heavy first two episodes, it was pure, unadulterated romance that left viewers misty-eyed while watching War And Peace last night. An emotionally charged scene which saw dashing Prince Andrei (James Norton) whisk Natasha Rostova (Lily James) on to the dancefloor at the Tsar's New Year's Eve ball left the audience of the hit BBC One period drama reeling. Viewers took to social media to praise the romantic scene, which showed the couple falling in love - calling it 'this generation's Mr Darcy in the pond' - referring to Colin Firth in Pride And Prejudice.

Where can we watch it form the beginning?
The series is airing on A&E, Lifetime and History HD. The first broadcast is Monday 9 pm. This coming Monday Jan 25, A&E will rebroadcast part 1 at 7 pm before part 2 at 9 pm.
So it’s airing first on BBC?
It was on several cable channels last evening.
I recorded it, but have not watched it yet.
It is probably on OnDemand and on the websites of the cable channels that carried it.

Yes it started two weeks earlier in the UK.
I’ve been watching it on solarmovie.ph
It’s was on Lifetime Channel last night
I’m recording on the DVR but will not watch until I finish the book. It is my third attempt but will finish it now while I’m under the weather. I’m up to the occupation of Moscow.
Reading it on the Kindle app on the iPad is great. Not too heavy, syncs to whatever device I use, but the iPad is best as you can highlight a character’s name and find all references to it elsewhere.
A mini series of War and Peace I expect to be like the movie of the book Hawaii.
War and Peace is probably my favorite novel of all time. Tolstoy is like Shakespeare.
Right now I'm reading Stendahl's le Rouge et le Noir and Zola's le Rêve (the accent circonflexe gets screwed up--The Dream) in French, with my expert native French teacher, in preparation for reading les Miserable, another of my favorite literary works, en français--that is, in French.
I would love to read it in the original Russian, but reading it in English translation was unforgettable.
The clip shown was beautiful.
***Nobody will ever replicate the battle scenes from the 1960s Soviet version.***
I got the Russian Cinema Council version(WIDESCREEN) on DVD! The Kultur cut for TV version is not as good even though it is the same movie.
Bondarchuk also did great battle scenes in WATERLOO with Christopher Plumber and Rod Steiger. I’ve also got it on DVD.
I should mention that the 1950s Henry Fonda version of WAR and Peace is like a CLIFF’S NOTES compared to the 1960s RUSSIAN version.
That is what happens when one tries to compress the work to 208 minutes.
