The series is airing on A&E, Lifetime and History HD. The first broadcast is Monday 9 pm. This coming Monday Jan 25, A&E will rebroadcast part 1 at 7 pm before part 2 at 9 pm.

Thanks for posting this! I was able to put both episodes on record for next Monday, Jan 25.

War and Peace is probably my favorite novel of all time. Tolstoy is like Shakespeare.

Right now I'm reading Stendahl's le Rouge et le Noir and Zola's le RÃªve (the accent circonflexe gets screwed up--The Dream) in French, with my expert native French teacher, in preparation for reading les Miserable, another of my favorite literary works, en franÃ§ais--that is, in French.

I would love to read it in the original Russian, but reading it in English translation was unforgettable.
