Trump Says Cruz Is 'Nasty.' Good. We Need A Nasty Republican
Daily Wire ^ | 1/18/2016 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 01/18/2016 9:17:47 AM PST by conservativejoy

On Sunday, 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump complained about his rival, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). The two have been engaged in attacks on one another since Trump opened up his guns on Cruz over Cruz's Canadian birthplace, and Cruz responded by targeting Trump's "New York values." But on Sunday, Trump took it to the next level, smacking Cruz personally for his supposed inability to play nicely with others. Appearing on ABC News with Clinton surrogate George Stephonopoulos, Trump stated, "Look, the truth is, he's a nasty guy. Nobody likes him. Nobody in Congress likes him. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him. He's a very - he's got an edge that's not good. You can't make deals with people like that and it’s not a good thing, it's not a good thing for the country. Very nasty guy."

This is odd coming from a candidate who has maligned a war hero, imitated a handicapped journalist, and questioned Megyn Kelly's menstrual functions. But on Monday, he followed up that attack by doubling down, telling Fox and Friends, "Everybody hates Ted. It's a very tough thing. They all hate him for a lot of reasons, but they all hate him."

Nonetheless, Trump's slap at Cruz isn't inaccurate. Cruz isn't popular in the Senate, or with the establishment wing of the Republican Party. It's that fact that has kept him from rising with the establishment, even though it's clear he's positioned as the top possibility of knocking off Trump. Cruz is so unpopular that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has now refused to pass a resolution reinforcing Cruz's eligibility for the presidency.

Those in the media find Cruz's polarizing attitude toward politics detrimental. Joe Scarborough of MSNBC whined, "it's one thing being an outsider; it's another thing being a pariah." Mika Brzezinski added, "How do you make deals if everyone hates your guts?"

Here's the answer: you don't. Good.

I've been asked repeatedly in recent weeks for whom I would vote if the primaries were held today. My answer: Cruz. That's specifically because he doesn't play well with others. He isn't the compromising type. We're fighting an intransigent left unwilling to cave on central leftist principles that undermine the meaning of Americanism. The last thing we need is a Republican president looking for common ground with that crowd.

And Barack Obama is the proof that compromise is no longer necessary to push an agenda. Obama's governing strategy has differed widely from Bill Clinton's strategy in 1996; Clinton swiveled and worked with Republicans in order to enshrine his legacy, while Obama cast Republicans as his enemies and then ran roughshod over them. The result: a truly transformational presidency, in which we learned that the federal government can force you to buy products (Obamacare), that the federal government can override basic state law (same-sex marriage), that the president can override basic federal law (Obama's executive amnesty). We now live in an elected dictatorship.

Establishment, Media, Trump Push 3 Attacks on Ted Cruz. They're All Ridiculous.

This is not a case for a Republican dictator, of course - we shouldn’t burn down the Constitution to save the Constitution.

But it is a recognition that a compromising Republican is merely a compromising Democrat - if we end up at the same mid-point, who cares who initiated the negotiation? Republicans must be just as intransigent. Any Republican president should be vetoing bills from Democrats regularly. He should be using executive orders to dismantle an unconstitutional bureaucracy. He should be using the bully pulpit. He should be casting Democrats as the villains in a political morality play. We are beyond the point of compromise, and establishment Republicans know that but wish to ignore it for their own political benefit.

So give me "nasty" Cruz. It’s better than genial W. (Medicare expansion, bank bailouts) or friendly McCain (campaign finance reform) or uniter Mitt Romney (creator of Obamacare). We don't need deals. We need transformative change. And as President Obama has demonstrated, nasty works

and how will Cruz do this when he can’t put together a coalition to actually do anything?

What has Cruz sponsored spearheaded and/or accomplished thus far in the US Senate?

Who are his legislative allies he needs to be successful?
You think just because he says what you want to hear that it is actually going to happen?

Being Captain of the debate team doesn’t mean the team is going to follow you into battle

My impression of Cruz is his brilliance is appreciated far more by campaign supporters than by anyone in any postion of power to help get anything done

If you want the Executive Office stagnation on steroids of the Bush43 2d term, then by all means, support Ted

We are so lucky to have such a strong leader as Trump running for President. We haven’t had this since Reagan. Both of them are the same. The similarities are astonishing.

So Trump wants to make deals with McConnell, Reid, Ryan, and Pelosi?

He gave them donations didn't he, so of course they will work as the uni-party leader to get leftist things done.

Except that Trump is a NY liberal who has repeatedly expressed his support for liberal causes.

Trump’s “manhood” is threatened by the likes of Rosie O’Donnell and Megyn Kelly. He’ll send ISIS a twitter rant... That’ll fix ‘em!

“Cruz is the only one who will deport them and NOT let them come back.”

You know very well that Cruz never has any intention of deporting any aliens. HIS WORDS. His recent flops don’t count. Get me some links during his career before this campaign.

By handing out Teddy Bears to the illegals at the border? I don’t think so.

Cruz has always supported enforcing the law, which includes deportation.

It makes no sense to allow Trump to hand the country to the Democrats by legalizing these millions of illegals.

It is Insane to allow Trump to give complete control to the Democrats, which his touch back amnesty will do by bringing in Millions of New Democrat Voters.

Cruz has promised to deport and not let them back in.

“The temporary work visa program through which Trump’s companies have sought the greatest numbers of workers, H-2B, brings in mostly workers from Mexico.”

http://reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0Q62RQ20150802

Trump’s companies handing out work visas to import more low skilled laborers. Guess he figured out those Polish illegal immigrants that bult Trump Tower didn’t work out so well.

Let's be honest - Cruz is hated by all because he Speaks Truth to Power.

"Getting something done" requires going along with Power's carefully constructed framework of lies.

As President, Cruz would have a very hard time "getting something done" because Power would act to silence him in any way they could.

As President, Cruz would be a Man of Principle. Power would make sure he meets a Nixonian end, because no man - however gifted - can overcome our vast army of Gramscian internal enemies by himself.

As President Trump might be able "get something done" once in a while by outsmarting or talking right over Power, much the way Ronald Reagan did.

As President, however, to endure long in office, Trump will also have to make Power think he is secretly on their side and throw Power a bone once in a while to pull that off. This will get him branded a RINO during his first year.

As President, however, Trump can gather enough popular support to claim a public mandate for his decisions. Not one of the other candidates in either party has any chance of doing that.

Trump will not be able return America to greatness nor to Constitutional government, much less to a conservative philosophy of governance. At best he can frustrate the socialists for the next four or eight years. But right now, that seems like the best option on the table.

Trump will make deals with Democrats and RINO’s. Not what we need at this tipping point in the country. Trump would
make the sort of deals McConnell, Boehner and Ryan have, it would be a disaster, but Trump is a disaster candidate.

“We need a nasty Republican who isn’t a globalist or for open-borders and central planning.”

Right you are, and I would add “not a deal maker with the bad guys” (RINO’s and dems).
