#1 jumper, fools with his camera instead of pulling a slip, textbook tree landing and recovery…

“#1 jumper, fools with his camera instead of pulling a slip”............

My very first thought. He might have been able to avoid that.

That guy took a beating in the comments part of the video. And rightfully so. Fooling around with a camera while drifting could have been avoided.

Happened to me once...
We were trying to get one last legal
jump in before dusk at our local club.

By the time we reached altitude, just at
dusk, winds over the drop zone had
picked up.

I was blown way off course (was jumping an old
modified round chute with limited steering) and
my choices were....land in the woods or a quarry
on the edge of the woods.
I chose the tree landing....
By then, it was dark and I was so far from
the LZ that no one from the club had any idea where
I was.

Two fisherman saw my landing and came to my
assistance. I managed to climb down the tree uninjured.

They drove me back to the club. We retrieved the chute the
next day.
Good times.

I was in Ranger School and had a twisted line, guy land on chute, and wire landing all in one. Training got me through it.

The next stick all went in the trees. Finally got some rest wait for their recovery.
