The National Transportation Safety Board wants to decrease the legal driving limit to one drink, lowering the legal limit on blood-alcohol content to 0.05 "or even lower."
The agency released its "most wanted list" on Wednesday, a laundry list of policies it would like implemented nationally. The list includes recommendations to reduce the current 0.08 blood alcohol content limit and outlaw all cell phone use while driving, even hands-free technology.
"When it comes to alcohol use, we know that impairment begins before a person's BAC reaches 0.08 percent, the current legal limit in the United States," the agency said. "In fact, by the time it reaches that level, the risk of a fatal crash has more than doubled. That is why states should lower BAC levels to 0.05-- or even lower."

How much pot are they lowering the limit to?
More ways to make money for local cops. Why don’t they enforce cell phone use while driving. I have seen more near accidents by some dummy gabby away on their cellphones than anything else.
Got a better idea.
Make drunk driving an aggravating circumstance instead of an offense by itself.
No more sobriety checkpoints. But if you commit a moving violation, and are found to be drunk, the penalty has a major increase, like say a factor of 5 or 10. And if you killed someone, it is murder.

How are all these bartenders and wait staff going to make their $15 hourly living wage when alcohol sales drop by 2/3?

Having been in and around law enforcement for many years, I can’t tell you what a bad idea going to .05 really is.
I am 100% against drunk driving, but we cannot even enforce the laws we have. This will be a huge revenue enhancer for local agencies, a drain on the economy and at the end of the day, will have little or no effect on impaired driving deaths.
If they want to do something constructive, they could investigate and suggest reasonable quantifiable limits to drugs, especially marihuana and prescription drugs. Most of the DUI deaths in our area over the past two years have been drug related (of course, drug use is often found in conjunction with alcohol use. The statistics in a death will suggest it is alcohol if any is found, even though prescription drugs at high levels were also found.)
The NTSB has long been the home of Nazis. It is more so under this regime.
To the Feds: Try it. I will not comply.

This will destroy the local restaurant and tavern industries. Many people aren’t going to take the chance of going out for dinner and having a couple of drinks, so they’ll just stay at home or go to a friend’s house.
They’d save more lives by making texting while driving a federal offense. It’s in the Commerce clause, less accidental death improves commerce.
I don’t drink. And I do not want the federal government telling anybody what, when or how much they can drink. They want ever more control over us. There is no end to it.
I’m surprised that they didn’t throw in no smoking while driving, or no coffee too.
Or order Shirley Temples with dinner.

There are already “distracted driver” statutes that give to the po-po W-I-D-E discretion in what they can pull people over for.
