Ted Cruz makes Donald Trump his Mitch
The American Thinker ^ | January 15, 2016 | Ed Straker

Posted on 01/15/2016 12:03:27 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Ted Cruz showed remarkable fighting spirit in the Republican presidential debate last night, lacing Donald Trump with the same kind of brilliant and witty lines that he's used in his fights against Mitch McConnell.

When Trump's bogus charges against Cruz's eligibility to be president were raised, Cruz turned the tables on him, remarking that Trump had no problems with his eligibility several months earlier, giving this incredible one liner:

Since September, the Constitution hasn't changed, but the poll numbers have.

Trump looked very uncomfortable at that. But Cruz was just beginning. He even pointed out that Trump's own mother was not a "natural born" citizen, and that the same tinfoil hat crowd challenging his own eligibility could challenge Trump's. The crowd roared with laughter.

When Cruz pressed Trump on why he was pushing this issue now, Trump admitted it was because Cruz was doing better in the polls, and the crowd roared.

The audience was clearly on Cruz's side, booing Trump not once, but several times when Trump pushed his birther argument.

Cruz also made the point that Trump was relying on Harvard Law professor Larry Tribe, a far leftist who supports Hillary Clinton for president.

Trump was made to look small and petty as Cruz came out as the first candidate to challenge Trump in a debate and beat him.

... if you’re beginning to like Cruz, that is a dangerous sign, considering your kiss of death which resulted in Rick Perry and Scott Walker flaming out, you do recall that don’t you? LOL
No surprise at all that we saw a different debate. I can admit DT got the better of Ted on the NY thing. You can’t admit Ted got the better of Trump on all else.
DT lied about the 45% Chinese tariff and admitted he was only going on about the BC because Ted is gaining on him.
Do your BC principles include the fact that the DT’s mom was not an American citizen at birth?

That means nothing. Every poll with internals that I look at which is I think all of them show Cruz with the highest favorables and lowest unfavorables. This includes the latest NH poll with Trump at 32 and Ted at 14. Ted also beats DT head to head in NH in a very recent poll.

... Hey Sparky, it’s not an ‘attack’ if it’s true.
CW has the enviable record of choosing candidates, liking them, and then watching them drop out.
If someone can’t handle that, they need to grow a thicker hide.
More cheap shots. Are you using Alinsky like your hero because you think that is cool? Do you cheer when he insults people on their looks, disabilities, and because they disagree with him?

Donald Trump has rejected being on the ticket with Ted Cruz.

It's been a given for six (6) months that Trump would never accept a VP spot from Cruz or anyone else.

God you are naive. You really need to leave whatever silo echo chamber you're in and see the real world for what it is.

Trump is an international business tycoon who has built a 10 billion dollar business in commercial real estate all over the world. He's smart, he knows he' smart he's a winner. He's seasoned negotiator. He's written book s this. He knows the best and brightest negotiators and businessmen all over the world. His TV show was a hobby where he made a paltry $231 million. His salary is $600 million. The list is endless.

Because of his success, he has a big ego and is driven to get the job done of saving this country. He doesn't want to be stifled an muffled by the Washington Cartel which is what he wants to crush. He wants to reverse all of Obama's EOs, eliminate half of the departments and agencies to put those responsibilities back to the States. No one can straighten out our international trade issues with China, Japan, Germany, Mexico, etc.

Do you think senators and lawyers have a friggin clue on how to bring jobs back from overseas? He wants to stop the terrorist invasion (better known as "refugees."), win the F-ing war against people who want to murder us.

Now do you understand why he doesn't want to be a number two lapdog to a lawyer? If he isn't number one, he will build more hotels and golf courses and essentially let the country continue on its path down the shitter. We need a bare knuckled, street fighter with brass balls to save this Republic. Trump can do this. Most everyone here gets it. Wake up.

So even Cruz admits that he's trying to confuse the issue by suggesting "the more extreme" theories as a rebuttal to the common sense ones? That's the Obama strawman tactic of creating a false dichotomy in order to dismiss the entire argument.

... I only wish Cruz would have remembered to remind Trump that he said “Iowans are stupid.” Other than forgetting that, Cruz was brilliant.
Hardcore trumpees don’t remember DT saying that.
Cruz was brilliant and that would have put the NY thing in perspective. Last night I read about the remarkable Luntz group and I am sure no fan of Luntz. So I watched the rerun. He started out instead of asking for hands asked them to say who won the debate and the 26 of them all said Ted Cruz at the same time.

I suppose in a lame attempt to distract from Trump’s exposed (and hooted and booed at) hypocrisy, that’s how you must choose to interpret it.

I'll watch the debate later, for now I'm relying on the posts and news article spin cycle for what happened.

That said, there is no denying that the suggestion that only an NBC can beget an NBC is an extreme outlier position to take, and not one to rely on to justify dismissing the whole controversy.

To suggest that a child born in Canada to an American mother and naturalized Canadian/Cuban father has the same controversial weight as a child born in the United States to an American father and a naturalized American/Scottish mother is a desperation move.

Except Trump is right, Cruz is not a natural born citizen. Trump is.

So he supported Cruz (in September) before he was against him. Once again another Trump flip flop. Cruz was okay before he told Trump to pound salt about being Veep, and his poll numbers were low. But now that Cruz is rising in the poll suddenly the Constitution changed and he is not legal.

Pretty good summation of the character flaws that eliminate any possibility of selecting him as a nominee. Any responsible voter would also have to question the judgement of any candidate who mention the name as a potential VP choice.

in your diatribe it is very telling that nowhere do you list anything that shows he has a single sincerely held conservative belief. Re-read what you wrote...nothing, zip, zero, nada that points to a conservative belief. And yet you folks think he will be the savior of the country through conservatism leadership.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up. It's called politics.

Remember the Reagan/Bush primary? Bush calling Reagan's economic plans "voodoo economics?" That didn't stop Reagan from selecting Bush later as his running mate.

>>I don’t think he has a broad enough appeal to win at this time however.<<

The Dems would have no problem making an ad that went like this: “Do we REALLY want another first term Senator as President? Yeah, like we tried that and we got incompetence.”

As much as I applaud Cruz for his work in the Senate, this might not be the best year for him.

you ought to hear the ex NYC cops ad firefighters laughing about retiring to the NC coast on some of the obscene overtime and bonuses they got in the months after 9-11. I live on the NC coast. I’ve had beers with them and heard it.

NYC values.

This is an open forum and I hope we can discuss these things in a rational, adult manner.

No, that was gone in 2015 BT (before Trump).
