A kinder, gentler car has debuted in Palo Alto.
Tesla Motors has made vegan interiors (seats, steering wheels and gear shifts) an option on its new, falcon-winged electric Model X SUV thanks to the urging of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a company shareholder.
"By offering a 100 percent leather-free car, Tesla is pushing its eco-friendly business even further into the future," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement. "PETA can now point to Tesla as a source for top-quality vehicles whose cruelty-free seats are as kind to the environment as its engines are."
New reservations are being accepted for Model X with a $5,000 payment, with estimated vehicle delivery at the end of 2016. According to Fortune, the base price is $80,000.
A three thousand pound (?) machine that can do harm to any animal that crosses its path - will be sensitive and cruelty-free?
Lettuce wrap seats?
Do you know what happens to the people in a car that takes the legs out from underneath a 900lb moose?
Yes, I do.
>>”PETA can now point to Tesla as a source for top-quality vehicles whose cruelty-free seats are as kind to the environment as its engines are.”
The “engine” is nothing without the extremely toxic and dangerous battery. The battery is nothing without electricity, which is probably coal, liquid fuel, or nuclear powered. So, if they seats are as kind to the environment as the “engine”, then they should make them out of live puppies. (Based on how enviro-socialists describe practical bulk electricity sources.)
If I lived in an $80,000 car, I wouldn’t need to eat the interior (seats, steering wheels and gear shifts). I’d probably pull off the road and buy a bean burrito at Taco Bell. Or several if I had to wait to charge an electric car.
They’ve got to stop running over ants and beetles with those cars! No more cruelty to ants!
Given that the new Tesla models can actually accelerate faster than gravity, you could take out the legs under a 900lb moose and be past it _before_ it fell on the car.
“Ludicrous mode” rocks.
Blue Whale?
Vegan/vegetarian food production and distribution causes the deaths of millions of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and bugs. Plus they would drive their vegan car to get an abortion.
What if your aunt is a vegetarian?
Oh my....honestly some days......**shaking head jpg**
Yeah, well, I remember a 1980s article (WSJ or HBR) about automobile options that pointed out that Honda offered the Accord in a total of six variations: base or XL, with a choice of 3 colors. One GM Buick model had 32,768 variations.
What company does better financially?
If somebody can afford to waste money on a Tesla, they can afford after-market de-animalization, should they choose.
Cruelty-free seats?
Oh I hear ya.. Nothing like hot leather seats to scorch yur heinie and stuff on hot day.
Maybe you, and I would, but PETA types would rather cause a 100 car pile-up with fatalities, than run over a rodent crossing the road, let alone doing the safer thing with a moose, if need be.
Groove y!!
How about the Leather seats in Combines that cereal killers drive to harvest their vegan grains?
iT batteries on the other hand....... can’t exactly be buried in your back yard when they die!!
where does the electric power to CHARGE those batteries come from? COAL FIRED POWER PLANTS emitting stuff hundreds of times more toxic than anything that comes out of the tailpipe of a gasoline burning auto!!
Without gubment..money....there would be no TESLA motors
Im sure vice president OPRAH will take care of THAT!!
