Former NFL star Lawrence Phillips has been found dead in his prison cell. The 40-year-old, who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 1996 NFL draft, was serving time at Kern Valley State Prison in California at the time of his death for two separate incidents - assaulting a girlfriend and hitting three teenagers with his car. It is believed his death was a suicide. Phillips was also facing additional charges at the time of his death after being accused of murdering his cellmate last year, Damion Soward.

He wasn’t such a bad guy when compared to Aaron Hernandez.
They had the most dominant offensive line I’d ever seen, you’re right it really didn’t matter who they had at running back.
But he didn’t.
I'm not exusing Phillips behavior but Osborne did what he did to try and help Phillips. He believed the only chance Phillips had was to be surrounded by his coaches and teammates. That was the only family Phillips had. He didn't want to abandon him like everyone else in his family.
He had no father, his mother was pathetic and her boyfriends beat and abused Phillips when he tried to protect her. He was held down and pissed on by one of her boyfriends.
He is an example of what the breakdown of the black American family has done to society. Is he responsible for his actions? Yes. Was he ever taught how to deal with these things? No. He was abused from day one. Osborne tried to be that guide for him. His effort failed. But if you think Osborne did it for a national championship you're sadly misinformed.
Prayers for a misguided soul.
Well written. I agree 100%.
The worst of the worst.
The record of team after team giving him chances, is pitiful and demeans pro sports.
Thanks Skooz, I also meant to include C19fan on that response with respect to Osborne losing his integrity...my bad.
That struck me, too. He was a star in college, was drafted much higher than was expected (#6 overall, I believe) and then had a brief NFL career marred by disciplinary and legal issues.
Some people really took the team move to LA hard.
Osborne lost his integrity when he allowed this thug to play for the sake of a national championship.
You have no idea what you are talking about...
Tommie frazier vs Lawrence Phillips....what a difference...
sorry he had a bad life but now he's made that woman's life, the dead jail buddy, the three kids hit in a car wreck , among others to all have very sad lives....
I would have been glad to sacrifice his life so the rest of society could have been left alone.
I agree cherry, that would be a fair sacrifice based on the carnage and damage he’s caused.
