Is the bashing really necessary?

Posted on 01/13/2016 5:31:27 AM PST by conservativesister

I have always been taught that if you can't say something nice then keep your mouth shut.

After the thread on Sunday from a supporter of one candidate that went way over 200+ posts, I started to feel hatred toward the candidate of the original poster due to how nasty she was toward other candidates.

Yes I want my candidate to win, but I don't want to turn others against my candidate and I know there are posters on this forum that are accomplishing that very feat.

Can we tone it down a bit! After all we are FREEPERS not the hate mongering DNC.

If you want to really see some nastiness, visit a religious thread. “: )

Allow me to take this opportunity to ping two Freepers who I have noticed to be consistent peacemakers on those threads. I appreciate you guys and your gentle, rational tone!

The race between Cruz and Trump is epic. Either one is just a sound bite away from the Presidency or disaster.

Isn't that ridiculous on its face? Read up on the Lincoln-Douglas debates when Americans would sit (or stand) for hours and listed to complex and detailed competing positions on the questions of the day.

For the best understanding of why we are where we are...Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business (1985)

We all derided Obama's featherweight, empty and hysterical campaign in 2008. How is it that a mirror image of it is so popular in 2016?

The sad thing is this...

If every Cruz supporter at FR flipped over to Trump, or every Trump supporter at FR flipped over to Cruz, the outcome of the election would be exactly the same.

“I think watching people show their ass is entertaining, especially when their idea of doing so involves pressing it against Macy’s window at high noon.”

Now THAT, is funny! True, but funny!

Anyway, I can't change other people's behavior.

Actually, you CAN, by being resolute and forthright in your support of your candidate.

I lived in a small town in Germany from 77-81. During the 1980 campaign, my neighbors were pleading with me to vote for Carter, they were convinced that Reagan would start WWIII.

For about two months, I would engage in conversation at the local gasthaus, where I would dine several times a week. We had spirited discussions, but I was convinced that Reagan would make America strong again, and a strong America makes for a safer world. I passed on my knowledge of American civics and history, contradicting what was being pushed by their liberal media.

My efforts were rewarded shortly after Inauguration Day, when I was invited to sit at the stammtisch, a table reserved for family and close friends of the family. Talk to anyone who's spent any time in Germany, and they'll tell you that's very rare. It's one of the highlights of my life, and I was all of 26 YO.

For me and my family, Cruz is #1, Trump is #2, and there is no #3. Whatever battles these two engage in, the victor will be stronger for it come November. We ain't playing tiddlywinks here, we're talking about who's going to lead us out of the abyss created by the UniParty.

O/T, but I received a compliment from a member of Frankie Valli's band recently. After their show on NY Eve, I saw them at one of the bars, and I went over to thank them for a great show. One thing led to another, resulting in a 90 minute conversation, swapping stories about living in Germany. I told him about the above story, as well as a couple of experiences as a platoon leader. It was a great way to start the New Year! Of course, my feet were back on the ground before Jan 1 was out, as I was pressed into service watching my 5YO grandson, and assembling his new Hot Wheels garage...lol. What can I say? It's all good.

I would be thrilled to have Cruz as president and I think Trump, if he wins, could be as disappointing as California's Terminator.

If Trump wins the primary, I will reluctantly vote for him but fully expecting to be profoundly betrayed.

If Cruz wins the primary, I **will** reluctantly vote for him. I am a defender of Article2, Section 1, of the Constitution. It broke my heart to see Obama literally erase this section of the Constitution. I don't believe that the Founders would have considered a man born in another country and who claimed dual citizenship until recently, a natural born citizen.

If Cruz wins, I expect the Marxo-Demo-Proggies will find plenty of judges who are also Marxo-Demo-Proggies who will use natural born citizenship at a time when it will do the **most** possible damage. BET ON IT!

Trump is the personification of what America used to be. Bold, brash, willing to attempt audacious things that others fail at. Sort of like Teddy Roosevelt.

Cruz while being a strong conservative, has not displayed to date the ability to sway the opinions of others and influence their way of thinking.

My fear with a Cruz presidency is that he does not have the strength to overcome an adversarial Congress, SCOTUS and Federal bureaucracy. I believe that Trump does; and I hope that his patriotism and love of family will guide him to actually live up to his rhetoric.

YMMV

Trumpbots should be treated like any other liberals who try to take over FR.

...and there you go!

It’s a war that must be fought on many fronts, IMO. Trump is not the conservative I would prefer but he is the fighter we need.

Liberals used to get bashed apologetically on FR. There is/was a series called DUmmie Funnies where people who trashed consistent conservatives were made fun of. No that’s standard operation for Freepers. Trump has been viciously (deservedly) bashed on FR by someone with zotting privileges in the past.

Which amounts to 'setting the example'.

Interesting family story. Many people never have the luxury of seeing what the rest of the world 'thinks' about life and people in America.

If you are not a big corporate campaign contributor, a K Street lobbyist, or a member of the Country Club set, the GOPe does not care about you.

That's the problem. It is bribery, pure and simple. Do what we want, get money. It should be treated as what it is; criminal activity.

How can we change it? Not simple or easy, but start by requiring all political donations to be made ANONYMOUSLY. Can't sell influence if you don't know who is buying. The people should have the right to donate to any party or candidate, in any amount they wish; that's FREEDOM.

And institute TERM LIMITS that preclude almost all CAREER POLITICIANS from creating and inhabiting fiefdoms for a lifetime. Add the requirement that any law binding upon the populace be binding upon congress and all public officials. Have them fund their own retirement as we the people have to do.
