I relished the term "Old Man" when I was a Battery Commander, at the ripe old age of 29.
Whenever an insinuation is made that I may be a racist, I take it on head on...I simply don't put up with it. From the time I entered active duty, I served in units that were majority black/Hispanic. We were all green, race had no role in how we did our jobs.
I'll be damned if I'm going to let someone get away with that racist crap.

That statement brings up some crazy memories. I was a platoon sergeant who was also the EO NCO, with a black EO officer. No big problems until one day a black private wanted to talk to the officer. I asked the private what the problem was, and he gave me a sneer and said that I would not understand, it was a black thing. Before I even registered a thought on it, my arm acted all on its own, I had put him against the wall and sneered right back, "well this is a green thing and you will never talk to me like that." I never had another problem with any of our young privates, of any color, after that.
