For open discussion.

This article was sent to me by one of FR's own strident Cruz supporters.

He's a real good guy, but this race we seem to have chosen different candidates. This post I think is a good one to discuss.

Many supporters of other candidates, such as Ted Cruz seem to believe this post is completely accurate.

I don't agree, and would welcome a discussion of this. This seems to be the major source of disagreement we will see play out in the month ahead (and I believe it really may only be one more month, until we have a champion, but that is just my own view)

The Cruz supporters seem to think that what Trump has going for him is a sort of "winner" mystique. Once that is rattled by something, the thought goes, then Trump will simply dissolve.

I don't agree. Trump is strongly taking stands on very controversial issues, which happen to agree with my own virtually every single time he opens his mouth to take them.

He is for American job. (very, very big)

He is for American borders. He is for limiting immigration to legal, controlled immigration.

He is taking strong stands, in spite of massive counter-agenda pressure, and I am very much in support of virtually everything I have heard the guy say.

Of course Ted Cruz supporters feel the same way about Ted Cruz.

So here is a thread, we can talk it out.

Thanks everyone. This is free form, but please let's both sides keep it civil.

Thanks.

The article belongs on NBC.

Mr. Trump did not “attack” first.

Nor did he enable ObamaTRADE, like Cruz,
nor help Goldmann Sachs, like Cruz for his wife.

I think what he sent you is a Salon story from yesterday.

What count are we up to on the number of times the media predicted Trump’s imminent “implosion”??

All I can say is there are a lot of envious people out there who can’t stand Trump’s established record of success. These losers just can’t wait to see him fall on his face. They would like nothing better than to have Trump join them in their miserable state.

I know Trump might deliver but I could be disappointing.

OTH I KNOW the other candidates will never deliver on the major issues of our time.

So it is between maybe and no chance.

Most will pick maybe.

The Cruz supporters seem to think that what Trump has going for him is a sort of "winner" mystique. Once again, the Cruzers' uncanny capacity for irony is on display. Trump & Cruz are exact opposites. I'll just leave it at that.

I simply see a spirited contest with Cruz and Trump at the top and believe Cruz will upset Trump early and often. No “dissolving” just a contest one man wins.

Personally, I support Trump. He’s not perfect. Chances are if he becomes president, I’d be disappointed, because he won’t live up to all of his promises. But, I do believe that he is the only candidate who will actually take the fight to Clinton, and be ruthless about it, I don’t think any of the others will do that.

If Clinton wins, she will be 0bama on steroids, and this country will be permanently damaged, if not totally destroyed. Having someone who is willing to fight her, as well as her lapdog media.

I’m also well aware that the gop establishment doesn’t support him, and will do everything in their power to prevent him from getting the nomination. The only way he will get it is to lock up more than enough delegates, and I do believe that is possible if he wins 3 out of the first 4 caucuses and primaries.

>>The Cruz supporters seem to think that what Trump has going for him is a sort of “winner” mystique.

It is amazing that people, especially on the Right, would see a “winner mystique” as a bad thing. Winners seem to be able to accomplish things that the rest of us could never do. America does not need a debater. America needs a person who is accustomed to winning and actually lacks the humility to say to themselves, “I don’t think I can do this, so I’ll compromise and see if I can do something much less.” The latter is the modern Republican Party in a nutshell. They are so afraid of losing that they never even try to win.

Same premise as Trump supporters won’t bother voting, in this case, when the going gets tough, the Trump supporters will give up instead of rallying.
I have not yet decided which of the two candidates to vote for. But from what I see here and elsewhere is that Cruz supporters tend to be, a bit abrasive.
I am however, getting to the point where anytime I see the terminology “low info voter” I know the writer is a pompous idiot with issues of intellectual insecurity. A brainless and cowering maggot.

CNN, I want to commend you for something.

You have steadfastly, and mostly alone, been the one who was advocating for bringing American jobs back to America.

Quite frankly, I thought that ship had sailed. I had no solution, but it was just my observation that the situation was not going to change.

But you maintained that it had to happen, even in the face of a lot of mocking by fellow Freepers.

Then Trump came along and said the same thing. Trump has brought back the real possibility that we could ignite a manufacturing boom here in the states and make conditions such that jobs could come back here and thrive here.

So I want to acknowledge that you were right, and that you had not given up hope.

So, kudos to you.

And, go Trump go!

I will vote for Cruz if he wins nomination. However, I think Trump is the better leader. Cruz is not nearly as bold, takes few risks and when he has taken a bold strong position, it has been after Trump kicked down the door. Cruz was milquetoast on immigration until Trump kicked that door down for example.

Trump has charisma, and his positions on jobs and immigration are resonating even with blue collar democrats! Cruz will never get a single crossover democrat vote but Trump will get them in droves.

Question for everyone: If Cruz were to win nomination and he was up against Hillary and she accused him of sexism, war on women etc... would he hit her as hard as Trump did? Would he destroy Bill the rapist like Trump did?

Look at how Bill and Hillary were shut down by Trump. I have never seen them back off like that! Even the media couldn’t defend them. Trump disemboweled them before our eyes!

I am sure Cruz would fight back, but in a more gentle poll tested donor approved manner.

A Wile E. Coyote Trump Frustration Award entry as puny and this is rare these days. This was the type of silly crap we heard from the “experts” months ago. May Tokyo Rove was the ghost writer.

I support Cruz, but Trump will do well as long as he doesn’t apologize for telling the truth. That goes for Cruz as well. It’s why these two candidates are set apart from the others.

I give money and time to Cruz. Trump doesn’t need or ask for either but I probably would help Trump if asked.

Does that make me a Cruz supporter?

But the first sentence of this Salon article, freeper email, or whatever it was, told me the author is ignorant to what’s happening and is just throwing something out there.

Is Trump a winner? Yes. Absolutely. Is Trump being a winner a singular explanation for his support? Hell no. Trump loves America and us. That is far more responsible for his support. People believe that he sees America like we do. For the most part, he loves the things we love, he doesn’t like the things we don’t like. He values education, hard work, and standing up for beliefs. IMO those values have more than a little to do with his being a winner. And...he’s not a politician.

So find plenty wrong with every candidate including Trump and Cruz. But find plenty more wrong with the others. With Trump and Cruz, we’ll survive as a country. With the others that’s a maybe.

Survival trumps all else. And to become the America that we had been, we’ll have to survive now.

Kind of cute that Jeb and Hillary are the ones actually running on the mystique of being a winner isn’t it?

Trump loves America

Love is more powerful than the hate and money/pose greed brought to the race by Clinton’s and bushes and the rest of them

He’s not going to implode. He’s not going to hand it over and he is not going away
