Who knows about the naming of the classes of naval vessels?

Have been trying to find out who/why named tugs ‘Natick’ class (it’s an uncommon name for a town)

Panama Canal troubles, ocean racing sailboat grounding.
Never knew so many mishaps, sinkings. We never hear about.
