T. Rex were an English rock band, formed in 1967 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan. The band formed as Tyrannosaurus Rex, releasing four underground acoustic albums under the name. Tony Visconti (their producer for several albums) claimed in a documentary on the band that he had taken to using the abbreviated term "T. Rex" as a shorthand, something that initially irritated Bolan, who gradually came around to the idea and officially shortened the band's name to "T. Rex" at roughly the same time they started having big hits (shortly after going electric).
In the early to mid 1970s, the band reached huge success with fourteen top-20 UK glam rock hits: "Jeepster", "Get It On", "Ride a White Swan", "Solid Gold Easy Action", "Children of the Revolution", "Hot Love", "Telegram Sam", "20th Century Boy", "Debora", "Teenage Dream", "The Groover", "New York City", "I Love To Boogie" and "Metal Guru". During this period the band also released six UK top-30 albums, including Electric Warrior, which hit the top of the album charts. In 1977, Bolan was killed in a car accident, and the band disbanded.

Ping
I always liked “Life’s A Gas” from the Electric Warrior album.
I could have loved you girl
Like a planet
I could have chained your heart
To a star
But it really doesn’t matter at all
No it really doesn’t matter at all
Life’s a gas
I hope it’s gonna last
I could have built a house
On the ocean
I could have placed our love
In the sky
But it really doesn’t matter at all
No it really doesn’t matter at all
Life’s a gas
I hope it’s gonna last
I could have turned you
Into a priestess
I could have burned
Your fate in the sand
But it really doesn’t matter at all
No it really doesn’t matter at all
Life’s a gas
But it really doesn’t matter at all
No it really doesn’t matter at all
Life’s a gas
I hope it’s gonna last
But it really doesn’t matter at all
No it really doesn’t matter at all
Life’s a gas
Other than “Bang a Gong (Get It On)”, IMO, there really isn’t much else.

No Mambo Sun?
Ironically, I just late last night watched a mob movie that included their song “Bang A Gong (Get It On)”. It played while the guy playing ‘Sammy the Bull’ Gravano shot one of his friends in the back of the head as they were riding in a car. The movie was “Witness to the Mob”.
Another good one in the discography of T. Rex!
I never got the whole faggy glam thing. I did like ‘jeepster’ and ‘get it on’
It's by Ringo Starr (who also directed a concert film about T. Rex).
“Other than âBang a Gong (Get It On)â, IMO, there really isnât much else.”
Agree. Rush use to use a riff from that song for bumper music. It took me a long time to hear him identify it so I could go buy it.
The Slider. This album was the 1972 follow-up to Electric Warrior.
“I never got the whole faggy glam thing”
I never even tried to “get it”. I just listened to what sounded good and ignored the lyrics. However, when I first heard Lou Reed’s Rock and Roll Animal album and the live version of “Heroin” on it, I was hooked.
T.Rex is one of the true multi-layered bands. One the surface they made light pop hits, guaranteed to make 14 year old girls happy. But when you actually LISTEN you see very quickly why David Bowie considered Marc the most creative man in music. There’s a lot of really awesome complex stuff going on under those addictive pop hooks.
a greatest hits album without their greatest hit? (bang a gong)
“a greatest hits album without their greatest hit? (bang a gong)”
Wrong, it’s:
03:40 Get It On
