I know, I said I wouldn't post another "Hey we got to XXX!!" thread until 250M, but it appears they're gonna skip that marker. So here's 200M.

More from the article:

It's impossible to corroborate Microsoft's claims using data from outside the company -- the "monthly active" framing of the 200-million measurement implied that Microsoft was tallying unique connections to the Windows Update service, which polls Redmond's servers only when a device is on -- but third-party statistics hint that fewer devices are running Windows 10, and that the OS has fallen slightly behind Windows 7's uptake tempo in its first five months.

On Friday, U.S.-based analytics vendor Net Applications pegged Windows 10 with an overall user share of 10% -- an estimate of the fraction of the global users who went online in December running the OS -- and indicated that Windows 10 accounted for 10.9% of all Windows-powered personal computers.

I am satisfied with 8.1 on my home PC and not upgrading.

Most companies aren’t proud of pissing off so many people.

I just upgraded my laptop and desktop.Far too soon to pass judgment although I am a bit concerned about compatibility with several applications and devices.

I’m sure this will be 100 posts from people that will swear that half of those people uninstalled it, or that Microsoft is fudging the numbers, or how someone “tossed my PC and got a Mac” or Linux or whatever.

Oh dont forget the 10000 variations on the “I was forced” meme.

I bet most of those are computers of large international to smaller businesses that need to upgrade for contractual reasons.

They say 10 is on 200 million systems.

They have set 7 and 8 to have 10 downloaded to, ready for install. Whether the person actually installs it or not.

I bet the farm these boxes are included in this 200 million figure.

Windows 10 has a glitch when trying to connect to the hotspot on your droid. After upgrade I had to reload my wireless drivers in Windows 8 compatibility mode. Then worked fine. If anybody is having that problem I can probably help you out.

One of the things I’ve been working on over the holidays is upgrading my 4 Win7 desktops and 1 Win8.1 laptop to Win10. Have made full MacriumReflect disk image backups prior to each, just in case something goes wrong so I can restore the full disk. So far I haven’t needed them.

The laptop upgraded fine, although it initially booted to a temporary profile. Changed to local vs MS account login and did a hard reset (5 sec power button push), and it rebooted just fine into my original login account.

The first Win7 desktop upgraded with no problem at all. The second desktop turned out to be unavailable for upgrade at this time (set to notify later if ready), since it’s my oldest (6+ years old). The third desktop is upgrading as I type this.

All in all, pretty uneventful upgrading so far. One other precaution I’m taking is to uninstall my AVG virus software just before each upgrade. May just go with built-in Defender on the upgraded Win10 machines.

So far Win10 seems pretty nice. Definitely a mix of Win7 and Win8.1, and WAY better for desktops w/o a touch screen than Win8.1 was.

Why is Microsoft monitoring how long you use Windows 10?

I’m probably one of those 200 million. I tried Win 10 a couple of weeks ago out of curiosity. Didn’t like it. Things that should have worked didn’t work correctly, applications I need would not even install. That machine is back to Win 7.

Most of my day to day stuff is Linux (Mint or LMDE) but I need windows for some applications that won’t run on anything else.

First they made it free since the user is the product, not the OS.

Now they are trying to scare you into using Win 10.

Microsoft Warns Windows 7 Has Serious Problems

The Feds via the NSA and other intel agencies must be throwing some bonuses Microsoft’s way to find ways to get more people to use Win 10 since it makes it much easier to spy on us.

I wonder if that counts me. I downloaded 10 to install into a VM. I haven’t paid for the activation key yet. I’m just sorta looking around at it. The only reason I’d ever use it, is to play a game or two, and even that would not be on a regular basis. And at $110.00, it probably won’t be worth it.

I used expert settings option during install. Man, I had to turn off EVERYTHING they were wanting to send back to MS.

Not reeL thrilled with those active tiles.

Win 10 is not bad. They have sped it up and have minimized their updates.

I use it on a new Toshiba laptop with a dedicated/usb yoked printer for spreadsheets and some word processing.

For most of my computing these days, I use my Acer Chromebook 15 with a HP Cloud printer for most of my online stuff.

This morning I couldn’t get some emails and other stuff printed, more on that later. So I went to my Toshiba on my desktop. It is so much slower to get to anything and then to print it.

Later, I did a direct printout of the system status of my HP Cloud printer. Apparently, a neighbor with a new Mac had entered some of his system stuff on my HP Cloud printer via its wifi site. I got rid of his entries and that printer is back working. So, I am back to my Acer Chromebook.

My Toshiba is back to its minimal role and backup role.
