ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order require all homeless people to seek shelter when temperatures drop below freezing.
The order directs state agencies -- including police, social services and others -- to take "all necessary steps to identify individuals reasonably believed to be homeless and unwilling or unable to find the shelter necessary for safety and health in inclement winter weather, and move such individuals to the appropriate sheltered facilities."
The directive goes into effect Tuesday.
A 2015 count tallied 88,250 homeless people in New York, statewide -- the highest homelessness rate since the Great Depression.

They are also ordered to live responsibly, give up all dangerous and unhealthy vices and habits, save their money, and find something productive to do with their lives.
Wonder how this works? Walking down the street having the ‘appearance’ of being homeless, get asked to show proof of residence, no proof, off to the shelter with you!
Andy, if they're unwilling, are you going to approve of physical force to move them? Are you going to give those involved in moving them, the ability to protect themselves during any physical confrontations? Guaranteed, there will be incidents to deal with.
That will be like the Colonists having to quarter British soldiers.
No doubt this is a way to give law enforcement a way to save the lives of the large percentage of mentally ill homeless since otherwise LEOs’ hands are tied. It’s a disgrace that we have so many mentally ill people who aren’t being given the help they need thanks to the “compassionate” liberals who decided they’re better off on the streets.
Another prime example of the idiocy of liberals and so-called progressive policies.
But the Hawaiian homeless aren’t in danger of freezing to death. Getting fat on gov’t handouts and sunburned, sure, but not freezing.
How many extra rooms that could be converted in the gov’s mansion to dormitories. The mentally ill would be right at home there.
Just move them into all the state office buildings. They can take over the offices of the gov’t workers who are rarely there anyway, and don’t do any real work when they are there.
Heck, just call them auxiliary state workers and pay them, probably cost less than trying to “take care of them. I doubt anyone would notice a drop in “productivity”.
And tell them if they leave the office, they lose their new home, and someone else gets it.
“LOL, that would keep them warm but I read recently that Hawaii has a major homelessness problem too.”
That is because it has been tried before. Again and again
Typical liberal progressive garbage. Here is what he actually said properly translated!
“I order all homeless into shelter when its bad out!.....There...I fixed it! Now, back to my insane corruption and subversion of the rights of the people of this state.!”
Sleep on the couch? Horse hockey. The conservstive home owners will be lucky if that asshat libtard lets them sleep in a pup tent in the back yard. The homeless will get the presidential suite. libtards will NOT be required to quarter the homeless.
Wasn't this one of the issues that King George foisted on the colonists?
I could say something really uncouth now, but I will control myself.
It's not like they'd be quartering troops in your house. /snark
That’s exactly what this is.
This is awesome. All problems can be solved by government decree. Finally, Thank Obama the most holy. Uninsured? Declare everyone must buy insurance. Unemployed, declare you are employed. Homeless? Declare you must find shelter. Hungry, Declare you are full.
HAIL the glorious revolution comrades. With such bold declarations by government we can see the brave new world. And if you don’t like it....
I know, I know. I worked in a nut ward for 11 years. I was told that the majority were there, because of drug and alcohol abuse. Not all, of course, but most. They would get off their meds with sickening regularity.
Oh yeah. Apparently Obola has solved the homeless problem.
