A Quick Run Down of Donald Trump's Positions
American Thinker ^ | 11/3/2016 | Ed Straker

Posted on 01/03/2016 7:27:04 AM PST by conservativejoy

ConservativeReview.com, which is edited by conservative talk show host Mark Levin, has emerged as a great ranking service for politicians. Recently the site ranked the positions of Donald Trump based on his public comments. Since everyone knows that Trump has spent most of his adult life as a liberal but has since recanted nearly all of his former positions, I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and exclude any quotations over one year old. Everything you read below has come from Trump's own plush lips in the past twelve months:

Taxes: Trump wants to lower income taxes (though not as much as Ted Cruz), but he also wants to take a lot of voters off the tax rolls entirely, giving them incentive to vote for politicians who will vote to raise taxes and spending on the remaining people who do pay income taxes.

Free Trade: Trump will slap high tariffs on goods from China, Japan, and Mexico, which has the potential to create more jobs in America but also to radically raise the price of consumer goods here.

Guns: Trump currently supports Second Amendment gun rights, in contrast to his past support for gun control.

Abortion: Trump is against abortion. On August 3, he said he would defund Planned Parenthood, but on August 11, he changed his mind, saying he wants to continue funding Planned Parenthood, finding ways to finance the "good things" they do. Since all money is fungible, that would mean the continued indirect subsidy of abortions and sale of baby parts.

Immigration: In contrast to his previous positions, Trump is now the best candidate on immigration, wanting to build a wall, deport illegals (and then let many back), and end birthright citizenship.

I guess that one should also ask “compared to what” when rating them - I’m a Cruz supporter but would be likely to turn Trump’s red markings to yellow.

Never fear. Teddy will be swimming the moat with knife in teeth and he DOES know how to fight. It will be fun. So glad to see C.Edmund leading the charge.
Keep up the good fight.

Here’s a couple-a IFS:

1. Cruz is proven Canadian born, can’t do it.
2. Trump is really down on civil liberties, equally down as Obama, can’t do it.
3. Cruz is proven first generation off the boat from Cuba, can’t do it.
4. Trump holds to equal moral issues, on all accounts back to Barry’s bathhouses, can’t do it.
5. Cruz and Trump hold to theological ideologies near to Obama, can’t do it.
6. Trump is proven to financial backing outside the country, even to Russia, can’t do it.
7. Trump is proven to be the son of an immigrant, can’t do it.

With all those IFS, at this time, i’m voting W.A.S.P.

Talk about slanted opinion writing, this takes the cake!
Each and every opinion posed as an explanation of Trumps policy is erroneous, to put it kindly. This piece of crap is clearly “Designed” for the one sentence readers, otherwise known as adherents to “talking points” or “one liners” who only see the surface of things and don’t bother to think.

Big picture focus is what I am watching. I dont need or want to get down in the weeds of wonky details.

Stupid way to go through life walking around with your eyes closed.

It gets real easy to get wrapped up in a cult of personality that way.

Considering he was trying to describe the positions of a wrestling promoter, I think Mr. Straker was pretty diplomatic.

An intelligent research on the “talking points” emphasized in this article will show a vastly different conclusion than the little colored dots indicate.....for any researcher or analyst.

****************

Cruz has a Canadian birth certificate so that isn’t an issue. He was born in Canada.
In fact he got his Canadian citizenship absolved back in 2014 I think was the year.

Point #1 isn’t flying.

I’d refute them one by one but have no desire to argue with either you, who seems to be extra cranky on Sundays, or Conservative Joy, who is anything but. I form my own opinions based on listening to Trump, reading his books and looking at the actions of all the candidates. I don’t need Levin to tell me who to support or who meets his arbitrary criteria of what constitutes conservatism. Levin is stuck in 1982, and when he’s not claiming to be the foremost authority on all things Reagan, he’s hawking his books, his father’s books, talking about dogs or making fun of everyone and everything while screaming at the top of his lungs.

LOVE IT! Totally ACCURATE EXCEPT Cruz questionable on Immigration and Taxes, Economy, and Trade. Also, just as a thought, Trump “carries”, but does Cruz?

Trump has not been a solid conservative on the issues, but he is strong and solid on the survival of America, which is #1.

I will gladly take Trump over Rubio, who is more conservative on the scorecard, except of course for the #1 issue.

Cruz and Trump will ultimately be on the same side, and either one will be excellent.

I think this kind of Cruz/Anti-Trump post misses the mark by miles.

I doubt anyone here is voting for Trump because he meets some kind of checklist. Frankly, I think a checklist is a stupid way to choose a candidate. These kinds of lists and checklists rarely measure what is important.

I would hope conservatives would be able to understand the times we live in and choose a candidate that can meet that challenge fully, while adhering to a majority of what we believe.

Because of this, you can keep your checklists. They are meaningless, in the face of our times.

I’m looking for someone with very, very thick skin, who will not give a da&m what others say or write about him when he reverses Obama’s executive orders, cancels common core, sends Syrians home, etc. It will take skin as thick as an elephants. It will also take the determination of a mule.

I’m looking for someone who knows how to put our national interest first. Someone who sees just how our country has been sold out by DC and special interests and who wants to clean house. I want him to be able to wield any weapon necessary to get the job done. We have time for Marquess of Queensbury Rules later. For now, I want someone who will fight. Fight with everything he has.

Leading the charge will require leading citizens too. He must be able to rally citizens to support his cause - their cause. They don’t care about checklist charts. They care about their lives and their children’s lives.

I’m looking for someone who can step in and deal with competing interests to get them to cooperate to set our nation back on the right economic and Constitutional path. I want to elect someone who knows how to make this kind of deal with competing interests. Someone who has a long track record of doing it.

I’m looking for someone with the heart of a lion. Courage. Fierceness. Energy. Determination. Spine.

Someone who has had to deal with the serfdom of the tax code and written huge checks that went to die in DC. Someone who knows that if people have their own money in their own hands, it will be best used.

Someone who has balanced a budget. Made a payroll. Had to deal with government agencies and their ridiculous and crippling rules.

Who has hired great people who get things done. Many things. Many things all at once. He will be on the clock. There is much to do. This maybe the 200 year flood mark and the last chance to make serious change. Someone needs to do it, who won’t go through the motions.

Someone who knows how to subvert the good old boy crony network and make them dance to his tune.

Not a scholar.
Not a career politician.
Not beholden to special interests.

In this race, it seems clear from my perspective it is Trump.

I am ready to set him free, like a wrecking ball, a bulldozer, a steamroller, a chainsaw, or a lion.

I have no illusions that he is anything other than I wrote. In addition, I know I will hate many of his decisions. I hope the average of all he does will right the ship.

We won’t get everything done in 4 or 8 years. We have to get the big things done ASAP.

There is time later for cleanup.

I also know there isn’t a single elected official I like 100%. Most less than half. Trump will share that. No illusions there.

But frankly, these checklists suck and lead to bad decisions.

Best.
