Investigation of Trenton's first homicide in a decade continues into new year (Michigan)
The News-Herald ^ | January 01, 2016 | Ashley Sword

The call began as a well-being check for the occupants, but led to the discovery of the body of a 65-year-old man who had been strangled.

According to police, George Hite died of ligature strangulation, which means something other than hands was used.

Hite had been living with his 94-year-old mother, Agnes Hite, at the complex and was her caretaker. She was found unharmed on the floor, but was dehydrated as she was unable to get food or water on her own. It is not known how long she went without care before police discovered her and her son.

"First Homicide in a decade" isn't the kind of title you expect to see out of a Detroit area suburb.

Good noted this is Trenton Michigan. I saw Trenton and said there was no way they did not have a homicide in 10 years. Trenton NJ.

At first glance, I thought it was Trenton, NJ, and the first thought was “how could THAT be”...

Very sad... prayers for the family.

Trenton is my hometown - born and raised there - just celebrated my 50th HS reunion this summer. I was amazed how little the town has changed, and now this...

Just read the whole story in the News Herald. Very interesting when you read the details of the man who is going to trial and that he is charged with pre-meditated murder. This is deja vu for another murder in Trenton way back when of a beloved art teacher from Trenton High School.

Close. I grew up downriver in Lincoln Park. My best friend's family (growing up) moved to Grosse Ile in the '60's. I have cousins living in Trenton near Trenton H.S.

(I'm in White Lake now, having raised the family in Waterford (about 30 miles nw of Detroit)

Close!

Downriver has always been an under rated. I liked living there but it was a little short of cultural opportunities!

Under rated, indeed. Especially in the post-war '50's 60's and some 70's when the factories were booming and jobs were plentiful. It was a great time to be downriver and in and around Detroit and the metro area.

Sunday mornings in the summer 69-71 I would hop on my motorcycle and go for a ride along the river down Jefferson Ave and head onto Grosse Ile and sometimes points further south via West Rd. then onto Fort St. Ah, the memories - work, school, living at home, money in the pocket, girlfriend, etc., etc. The livin’ was easy.
