Apple faces a class-action lawsuit from iPhone 4s customers, alleging that the company knew of potential compatibility issues after the smartphone was upgraded to the company's latest iOS 9 software.
The class action lawsuit, which accuses Apple of planned obsolescence, was filed on Tuesday in a district court in New York.
Plaintiff Chaim Lerman and more than 100 other iPhone 4s customers assert that Apple deliberately crippled the smartphone's performance after upgrading to iOS 9.

Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for keeping me up to date on Apple. Perhaps 2016 will be the year I finally get an iPhone. Happy new year my friend!
I’m gonna sue!! My Apple IIe doesn’t run El Capitan and I’m really pissed at those jerks. I was sold a bill of goods! Who wants to join my class action suit?
You won't regret it. Happy New Year to you too.
The IIe was so much fun. My first computer.
iPhone 4 came out in 2010!
Shoot, the GE CFL light bulbs I bought a year and a half ago are no longer being made as I found out when I went to order some more.
How do I get me some money for having to buy something better and cheaper now that they no longer make my model of light bulb?
Still have mine -- in working order. My Apple ][+ it replaced met its end in a house fire...
However, I must admit that my all-time most enjoyable computer is my souped-up Apple ][GS -- running TML Pascal -- and serving as the video controller for a big VHS editing system...

IMHO, Apple's single biggest mistake was killing off its line of "programmer's computers" -- the Apple ][ series...
My iMac had the same problem. It’s an old iMac.
I was just kid when I had it. I was happy to play Oregon Trail and the Space Invaders ripoff game they had.
Learned some about apple programming in school. Wish I had stuck with it and had been a junky about it, probably have more money today. :-(
The suit is about the iPhone 4s model which came out October 11, 2011, replacing the iPhone 4. But previous suits were filed for the same issue for the 4, the 3Gs and the 3G and 3 before that when later versions of the operating systems couldn't run as fast on their hardware. . . and suits were filed when Apple block users from installing later operating systems on older phones incapable of running that OS because it didn't have the correct hardware as well. Same reasoning. Apple should have known in advance the future capabilities of yet to be developed hardware and anticipated it in existing hardware!
I had one of those and it was one of the best comps I’ve ever used. I could kick myself for getting rid of it.
Planned obsolescence and Apple? Wow. I was just commenting about this. This is one of my frustrations with Apple. That and the battery issue. Apparently I am not the only one!
Diito for their ipads.
I feel vindicated! Hey swordmaker?
You can pick one up cheap, under $100. There are lots of followers and users of those antiques. You can buy a modern plug-in card that uses compact-flash cards and USB sticks (CFFA3000), and download thousands of programs free off the Internet loaded onto a card or USB stick. Practically every program and game made for the IIe is available. I'm using this setup on my 1977 II and it works great.
Hi-Just curious. What kind of monitor do you use with your 1977 Apple II?
It is getting ridiculous. After four or five years, just get a new phone. No big deal.
MS Windows 10 is the opposite. I can’t buy a new windows PC because the new software and hardware are both incompatible, so I stick with a 10 year old PC. Maybe that’s why it’s named 10.
I still have composite monitors, using an NTSC connection. I have a collection of vintage machines, including monitors for the II, II+, IIe, IIgs and III. They all still work.
Really? ? I’m going to be in touch shortly. New year, new old computer. I want my baby back.
I have an old 1st Gen iPod with an actual 5GB hard drive. Still works. I use a 1st Gen iPod Touch every day as my alarm clock. My BIL uses my 1st Gen iPad every day for playing Hayday and reading iBooks. My iPhone 4S works just fine on 9.1, although I am not altogether happy about battery life. My newer iPad from May 2012 is still very nice, thank you.
What planned obsolescence? At some point in time, any computer hardware will stop working with new software. Apple may be the most conservative company around, in preserving the life of older hardware.
