One womenâs magazine is hyperventilating over the fact that an image of a fetus actually looks like⦠a baby.
Writing for Elle magazine, Sady Doyle recently criticized a Newsweek December cover in a piece titled âWhy Does Newsweekâs âAbortion Warsâ Cover Show a Cartoon Fetus Instead of a Woman?â Doyle commended the magazine for tackling abortion in its new cover story â but bashed the cover illustration for showing a fetus that looked âmore like a babyâ than an âactual pregnancy.â Puzzled yet?
In a rant, Doyle described what made her âflabbergastedâ by the cover: the fact that the image showed a âwell-developed, relatively late-term fetusâ with âno signâ of the woman in whose âuterus it is presumably housed.â
Guessing that the fetus was between twelve and fourteen weeks old, Doyle criticized the picture for making the age âhard to tell.â
â[I]t looks about five times bigger than the translucent, two-inch-long fetuses you normally find at that stage,â she wrote, âthis image looks less like an actual pregnancy, and more like an adorable computer-generated alien.â
âOr, to be blunt: More like a baby,â she added.
Doyle had a problem with the idea that abortion would destroy anything cute â or anything resembling a baby.
With the word âabortionâ placed next to the fetus image, she complained, âwe can assume itâs not going to be around for long.â
Because of this, the cover âsums up whatâs wrong with how we talk about abortionâ or âEverything is about the fetus, which is humanized, and the actual pregnant person is erased.â
(Has she read the news lately? Or ever?)
That led Doyle to warn about the âlong history of fetal images being used to scare people and rile up anti-abortion sentimentâ which has âentered the mainstream of conservative politics.â
Furthermore, Doyle protested, the cover was âmisleadingâ because it wasnât âexactly representative.â Most abortions happen before twelve weeks, or, in her words, âthe embryo being removed is less âfuturistic Gerber baby,â more âlentil-sized clump of cells.ââ
Plus, she added, if a fetus is aborted after twelve weeks, the âpregnancy is in many cases not healthyâ with issues such as birth defects.
âSo even in cases where a fetus was carried long enough to look very human,â she pushed, âit probably wouldnât look like a healthy, happy baby.â
In the end (as in the beginning), she decided the fetus was âbeside the point.â
What mattered, she insisted, was a âdecision made by one person,â whether by a woman or a non-binary person or a transgender man (yes, she went there).
âBy focusing exclusively on fetuses, and promoting the imagery of endangered, persecuted âbabiesâ in the womb,â she wrote, âpeople who oppose abortion are able to totally avoid talking about the ways in which their positions endanger and persecute the actual people carrying those fetuses around.â
According to Doyle, Newsweek ignored the victims of abortion with the fetus image alongside the words âabortion warsâ:
It ignores Robert Lewis Dearâs victims, murdered abortion doctors, and rape victims forced to carry their rapistsâ children to term. It erases poor women forced to have children they canât afford, and people who arenât able to pursue educations because they had children too early. It leaves out any person who wants to control their own body, but canât, because of abortion restrictions. Put âabortion warsâ next to their faces, and you get a whole different message â one thatâs much closer to the truth.
A âtruthâ that would censor the 57 million American babies lost since legalized abortion, that is.
It wasn’t.
21twelve is correct about what was being taught. I learned this and argued against abortion in the 80s. All of my peers were taught and accepted that a baby legally aborted within 12 weeks of conception wasn’t anything like a human.
This is why they refuse to watch the videos about PP.
What is an “actual pregnancy” supposed to look like? A frog?
the one thing I have noticed over the years is that most people that support abortion want to do everything they can to deny that the fetus is a baby. the reason why is if they except they are taking a life they suddenly become evil and are supporting the doing of evil. no one wants to acknowledge that what they are doing is selfish and evil.

Just kidding. When I googled to see if there was any handy source material, this was one of the first returns.
bingo...
In the back of her mind she knows it’s wrong and that’s driving her crazy.
These baby killers and their water carriers have always wanted to dehumanize the unborn baby. That way they can justify the killing without being seen for what they are: monstrous murderers. It is also their way for convincing pregnant mothers that they are not carrying a genuine human being. Just call it a foreign blob of tissue. That’s the ticket!
I see these abortionists in the same league as those Islamist chopping off heads because they are Christians who do not deserve to live.
Fetuses may not look much like babies, and babies may not look much like old people, but it should be obvious that all three groups are fully human.
Margaret?
Margaret Sanger?
Is that you?
In the Chicago museum of science and industry they use to have a week by week display of aborted fetuses.
Interesting that it gave you a week by week example of how a fetus is developing.
Why is it that the “we just want to control our own bodies” crowd cannot seem to be able to keep their right knee firmly planted against their left knee while naked in the presence of a similarly attired male?
His “drive-by shooting” should cause the murder of an innocent bystander?
They would find the task relatively simple if they just kept their clothes on while around any man other than their husbands.
If your child is “unwanted” there are thousands of couples who would love to adopt him or her. Especially if the lawyers, “advocates” and assorted bureaucrats were not involved.
