Ronald Kessler reporting from Washington, D.C. , The Republican Party will continue to lose presidential elections if it comes across as mean-spirited and unwelcoming toward people of color, Donald Trump tells Newsmax.
Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.
"Republicans didn't have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians," the billionaire developer says.
"The Democrats didn't have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren't mean-spirited about it," Trump says. "They didn't know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind."
Romney's solution of "self deportation" for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.
"He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal," Trump says. It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote," Trump notes. "He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country."
The GOP has to develop a comprehensive policy "to take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country," Trump says.

Tis is why what trump is doing is not political expediency

Yawn....
I like Cruz very much as well
Cruz was in the U.S. Senate in 2011?
What horse hockey
Tell a lie often enough eh Goebbles?
Trump is no fool. I’ve read 7 of his books. He knows he will come out of this richer than ever and his brand will only go up in value. Don’t kid yourself that he is making sacrifices.
“He makes me cringe just thinking about him.”
Sounds like you need professional help.
A Christian conversion is a unique and holy experience.
This change in position is political expediency. The Art of the Deal.
Trying to wiggle out of this ^^?
Is the FReeper you were replying to a politician? I don’t think so. Art of the Deal. Gee...who else could you be talking about?
Maybe you were referring to CRuz?
No, but he was running for the Senate and the audio of him calling for a wall has been posted here on FR.
“Cruz has sponsored legislation to halt immigration from 34 countries with active terrorists cells.”
Trump has called for a ban on Muslim immigration. Cruz refuses that. Which makes you feel more safe?
And then the paris shooting happened, gee i wonder if that might have woken allot of people up about the dangers of Islam.
Why don’t you post Trump’s interview with Oprah, way back in 1988 when he was talking about the decline of the U.S. then because of bad trade deals and such. When Cruz was probably skateboarding and listening to New Kids On The Block.
Try reading the thread before jumping to conclusions. One sentence was in reference to the conversion of our fellow Freeper. The next sentence was in reference to Trump.
“Yeah I knew about this but St Donald doesnât need to be consistent. Thatâs for mortals.”
Things have gotten a lot worse since 2012. Even today He’s going to have a big gate in the wall for the good ones to come back in legally. (which is the right approach IMHO, as long as they don’t drain the middle class $$$)
I think he was starting to wake up, i woke up in 2005 when Muslims started rioting and killing across the world because of a danish cartoon
They both have the same goal. Cruz defends religious liberty, so he is going to frame it as a terrorism issue rather than as a religious one.
Thanks for reminding me Trump is almost 70.
So what do “Conservatives” propose we do then?
Cruz? He’s already waffled on the issue.
Trump? He’s waffled too based on this article and others posted previously.
