Ronald Kessler reporting from Washington, D.C. , The Republican Party will continue to lose presidential elections if it comes across as mean-spirited and unwelcoming toward people of color, Donald Trump tells Newsmax.
Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.
"Republicans didn't have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians," the billionaire developer says.
"The Democrats didn't have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren't mean-spirited about it," Trump says. "They didn't know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind."
Romney's solution of "self deportation" for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.
"He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal," Trump says. It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote," Trump notes. "He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country."
The GOP has to develop a comprehensive policy "to take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country," Trump says.

Ps: Oh really, how do you KNOW this? Because Trump said so? Cruz has also been proposing building a wall since 2011. Trump? Not so much. He only started saying it because he knew it’s what people wanted to hear because his history on the statements concerning illegal immigration have been mixed at best.
Trump got so much heat for saying ‘deport’ and it easily could have backfired. It was a heck of a risk to take it he was only pandering. Panderers take Jeb’s positions, not ‘extreme ‘ ‘controversial’ ones.
Cruz WILL let illegals stay (which is amnesty). Since he cannot utter the wird ‘deport’ and only ‘intends’ not to give them legal status (lawyer-speak for I can wiggle out of this), plus took months to have an immigration plan - I don’t trust him. if he was solid on what he wanted to do, why did he take so ling to come up with a vague plan? Why is he having to add to the vague and weak plan when asked direct questions (like in the last debate).
So?

Trump is saying the right things now. Cruz has been vague and silent before being vague. If he’s going to let them have amnesty (ie., stay) then the country is toast no matter what else he does. Their children will be citizens and they will be eventually (the end result of legal status, whether ‘intended’ or not).
He will have to convince me the illegals will be gone. He hasn’t done it yet. I was all for Cruz - even defended his weak legal and illegal immigration stances, saying he would explain. He never did so I switched to the one with a solid plan. With Cruz’s way with words, the fact that he is reluctant to speak on the subject says volumes. I think he is honest enough to not want to lie.

I point out 2 of Cruz’s inconsistencies and it’s hate? I wasn’t mean about it and used very few words. So I think you’re reading into it.

I totally reject the premise that Trump’s campaign is mean-spirited. He addresses the mean-spirited criticisms aimed at him with blunt rebuttal. The lib-tard pundits and hatchet men don’t have the tools to deal with it. LOL as heads explode.

Self deportation says “We’re going to starve you out.”
Federal deportation says, “This is the policy, here’s the bus ticket, here’s your referral that you were a good employee, here’s how to fill out the forms to enter legally next time.”
