DES MOINES, Iowa,- A Des Moines, Iowa, police officer accidentally fired his gun while practicing his quick draw skills in an airport office, a police report says.
Officer Brady Pratt, 23, was in a Des Moines International Airport office Wednesday afternoon and drew his weapon to practice "his quick draw skills" and "unknowingly had his finger on the trigger and discharged a round into the ceiling tile," the report states.
The bullet struck the ceiling, traveled through a wall and into a ceiling tile in an unoccupied adjacent hallway. No one was injured, but another police officer was present to witness the accidental shot. Pratt notified a supervisor.
"Discipline is always a possibility when [police officers] are negligent. The level will be determined by the circumstances. There will be a very thorough review," said Sgt. Paul Parizek, Des Moines Police Department spokesman.
Silly cop. Practicing your quick draw in an office is something you do with an unloaded weapon.
Yeah, but they are better trained than the rest of the population according to the antis.
So he was practicing hitting aerial targets?
>>Yeah, but they are better trained than the rest of the population according to the antis.
Yeah. I always laugh when I hear that. Even at the range, cops (on the average) are some very careless gun handlers.
Bob Munden. Fastest draw, probably ever. Un-freaking-believable fast.
RIP.
The only thing faster is the speed of light.
After Burlington sheriff shoots self in hand. I think I’ll stay on the Illinois side of the river.
I’ve seen him, he’s impressive. I often wondered how fast some guys were in the old days. According to Louis L’Amour, there were some fast ones. I like to think they were like this guy in the video.
An ordinary citizen would have been arrested and charged. And had any gun permit revoked,But police playing stupid have union protection.
Barney Fife was my first thought!
LEO’s usually need more practice, but this?
Practicing quick-draw skills and shoots the ceiling? What’s he practicing for, UFOs?
damned fool
Do a search of "cops low IQ"
The other disturbing thing, the shot went into the ceiling? How/why the {expletive} was the muzzle pointed up during a draw from a holster? Maybe, if you were simply drawing and then practicing a movement drill where you have the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Lots of people are trained to do that with the muzzle down, some up, and there's even a faction advocating indexing the weapon beside your face (or up near your face) on the dominate side. The idea being it is pointed safely, and you are much more compact for going around corners. But in a quick draw from holster to target, "up" shouldn't really come into it unless you are an extremely uncoordinated soup sandwich.
