Why not this combination of candidates? Because neither man would be content in the dead-end, ceremonial, funeral-attending, ribbon cutting, fake duties of an American vice-president.
Add to that, both men are alpha males....and it's the brass ring or nothing for each, baby! Types like Trump and Cruz will never consent to be an underling to each other or anyone else.
Maybe now folks will listen with open minds to those who've been around the political arena for decades and has studied and absorbed a lot of knowledge of the psychology and egos that reside in the minds of politicians, both male and female, Republican and Democrat.
A lot of dreams will be shattered with this news...and folks will have to start making some choices between the two...and forget the Trump/Cruz, Cruz/Trum baloney which was never to be.

I agree with you. It’s a real long shot that TRUMP has a need for Cruz on the ticket. They are the same on the issues, sorta, and electorally Cruz has no base whatsoever in blue states outside of the South, so he could hurt TRUMP in the North. Donald is already doing fine in the South so he doesn’t need Cruz there.
Maybe his pick will be of some help in one of the three states it will take to win the General election. Democrats already have like 224 electoral votes if states fall as they did last election. Out of our field, only TRUMP can upset the expectations.
Frankly, TRUMP doesn’t need a VP, and Cruz is not VP material with all of his own energy and intellect. He would accept a cabinet position as maybe AG, where he can get his head wrapped around something he can repair and control for a change from the dead end senate.
We have got to get those people out of there. McConnell and Company, Cornyn, the Establishment leaders, Paul Ryan in the House. They have GOT to go, or they will block any president from doing the will of the people unless he is cut from the same socialist cloth as they are.
We can dream, can’t we?
