Bedfordâs Editor Note: This is pretty on-point, and will spoil âThe Force Awakensâ a lot if you havenât seen it, and even a bit if you have. So thanks for that, Blake.
After years of staggering hype, âStar Wars: The Force Awakensâ opened to nearly-unanimous positive reviews and the biggest opening of any film ever. Dozens of laudatory reviews are praising it as a worthy successor to the Original Trilogy.

Anybody who thinks Rey is a Marry Sue is a moron. Glad he got that out first, saved a lot of reading.
It’s just Episode IV done over again.
Thank you for posting that. Saves me the trouble of watching it.
Bleh.
Spoiler away! This politically corrupt spaceball opera will never get dime one from me. I will read the Daily Caller link because I am intrigued as to why people go so crazy over it
Was that the one with that reject Jar Jar Binks??? It stunk! Jar Jar Abrams directed this one.
Have not watched a single Star Wars movie at the theater or on TV. That Gravity movie really stank confirming my opinion of the genre.
No, that was Episode I. It’s basically the first one from 1977.

Lol. Confusing. So IV is really I. LOL.
FWIW, IMHO, the ORIGINAL Star Wars (”Episode IV”) in 1977 was the best, having both a beginning and an excellent ending, and could have stood alone if a sequel had never been made. Saw it then when I was 15, and still love it, although it’s been probably 10 years since the last time I saw it. Again, IMHO, it’s worth seeing at least once.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Those would be adjusted North American ticket grosses. This new Star Wars can only dream of $1b in NA ticket sales, let alone what the original achieved.
It's a Western wrapped up in a lot of high tech gizmos. Luke Skywalker goes one-on-one with his evil dad, who's also the commander of a planet-busting space station.
Hans Solo and Leia are the parents of the bad guy. They will all appear on Dr Chewie show to talk things out. Group hug everyone.
Doctor Zhivago was a really good movie. Jaws was entertaining also. Gone with the Wind and Titanic put me to sleep. The Sound of Music is syrupy but someone did a great parody of These are a few of my Favorite Things mocking the Clintons during the impeachment.
The Exorcist was really tame (and lame)—a twirling head spitting up pea soup. The Ten Commandments was hokey—I like to do an imitation of God speaking to Moses.
Have never seen Snow White—haven’t watched cartoons since age 9. Ditto for ET.
Courtesy of your movie critic.
I have seen all the Star Wars movies, but I am not a pagan "religious" fan. I immensely enjoyed the 1977 film, and first two sequels. I thought the last 3 films were rubbish by comparison.
The Force Awakens is a very, very good film.
It is much less cartoonish than the last 3 films. It is much more dramatic, and yes as everyone says, much more in the vein as the original film.
I disagree with this author that the Finn character is the most likable one. I think the Rey character is by far more likable - Finn seemed to hang around the script as filler by comparison.
The actress who plays Rey is very, very good - think 100 times better than Jake Lloyd.
The villian is also 100 times better than Hayden Christensen. He plays the "conflicted" role well without being a petty whiner.
Gone with the Wind is a great movie, as is the Ten Commandments. Jaws was not, nor was Titanic.
The Clooney-Bullock thing? Space was pretty empty in that. Whatever else people think about Lucas, he does fill the universe with all sorts of creatures and characters.
