Very cool. Who needs NASA muslim indoctrination when free-enterprise can further mankind?

A great day for space flight in general. I honestly believe this flight was second only to the moon landing.

I’ve seen dozens of launches from my backyard here in east central Florida, but looking up and seeing the first stage powered up and returning to land was a new one for me. Awesome... Congrats SpaceX!

Good job by SpaceX, but the money for the Dragon program is coming from NASA.

well, there’s 30-40 million dollars Space-X just shaved off launch costs. That’s a freekin yeehaaah moment! $100/lb, here we come.

Question...that last piece that spat out the satellites, does it retro fire and burn up or does it stay in orbit with the constellation?

Temper your enthusiasm for a put down, that's a fixed price for performance contract SpaceX has with NASA. All the risk is on SpaceX. If it were cost-plus you might have a leg to stand on, but this is the inverse of the typical government space program. It's not a subsidy program.

Graphic showing the two rockets that have landed recently. Jeff Bezos (of Amazon) Blue Origin and Elon Musks (SpaceX, Tesla) Falcon 9 1st stage:

Awesome! That’s a lot of whooping and hollerin’ you never saw on NASA missions.

What’s with the video graphic of the rocket going over the Empire State Building? Did the first stage burn only go for 1,000 vertical feet?

I agree, this is an event that has changed the world, possibly in ways we can't really know yet. Tonight moon bases, Mars, the asteroid belt have become near term human destinations. Space mining in now possible. We can mine Helium-3 on the moon for powering fusion reactors on Earth. All kinds of things have become feasible tonight.

So a 48 meter first stage went up to about a 300 meter apogee?

As far as I know, it will burn up in low Earth Orbit since it just at the fingers of Space.

We were sitting on a pier across the Indian River from the launch site and got to witness this historic event.

Great launch, but the exciting part was to see the separation of the booster and it's controlled decent back to earth. Landed safe and sound. Then two strong sonic booms.

Amazing, absolutely amazing.

Bezos already has the landing down. Now he just needs to get an orbital rocket. Kinda nice to have another space race going on, and its almost entirely within the United States.
