Guy is lucky he wasn't hurt worse.

So many things wrong with this story, so many apparent violations of BSA policies I don't know where to begin.

But allowing homos into Scouting is way more important than insisting and ensuring that leaders comply with and implement the rules. This is but one reason why Scouting will see a continued decrease in membership...stupid leaders placing kids at risk.

Our boys will be going into Trail Life now that the BSA has become a ‘safe zone’ for homosexuals and pederasts.

I don’t remember if Scoutmasters carried firearms during my scouting time, but are BSA leaders allowed to carry during camping outings now?

Just last spring, there was a kid from Rutgers Univ. who was hiking in the area with friends who was killed by a bear.

Who knew Northern NJ was so wild?

It wasn’t the BSA violations that were the problem here.

It was that the Scoutmaster bore a significant resemblence to Leonardo DiCaprio.

I don’t understand how the BS leader was not aware of the bear’s presence considering he knew the cave since 1980.

Bears stink. One can smell them.

Didn’t the cave smell different this time?

A few times I was about to let my dog outside but would stop. I smelled the stench and each time I saw a bear somewhere on my property.

I have a friend in rural NJ. She said she sees bears on her property. Says she wants to move back to Florida.

The Boy Scout leader, Christopher Petronino, took the three Scouts to a cave at Split Rock Reservoir in Morris County, which is about 25 miles west of New York City. The 50-year-old had known about the cave since the 1980s but had never witnessed a bear using it before, according to CNN affiliate WCBS.
One adult, three juveniles travelling to a remote, secluded location by themselves.

Doesn't that violate some sort of policy?

Late Fall, early Winter. Bears are looking for a place to hibernate. This bear likely took this as a challenge to his chosen hibernation spot. Black bears mostly don’t attack unless cornered or they think you’re trying to take away their food cache. Mostly.
