The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service signaled in a document obtained by the Associated Press that it would classify the lion as threatened or endangered across its entire range in Africa. The agency has scheduled a noon conference call to discuss its findings.

The Humane Society of the United States projects that American trophy hunters imported 5,647 lions in the past decade. The group's president and CEO, Wayne Pacelle, said he expects that the regulations will make it much harder to bring lion hides back to the U.S, thus removing a key motivation for hunters. ...

It’s great being a Kenyan. Africa is now allowing the jackass to make laws for them.

The US has no power to do this in another country, they may as well put Martians on the list.

WHAT? Martians are extinct! Better put them on the list of 100’s of species that go extinct every day.

So much for all that money those African countries get from licenses to help with the conservation of THEIR animals.

Not to mention the locals who get eaten on a regular basis

If a sovereign African nation decides, after having received expert advice, that a limited “cull” is advisable (for whatever reason) and if a US citizen gets the proper permits then the US Government should butt out!

African lions get more protection, more enthusiastically granted and promoted, than do US taxpayers. Also an endangered species.

True, but it makes trade in lion hides (rugs anyone?) illegal here.

I can guarantee you this. If you were a cattlman in Africa, you’d lose some cattle to lions. If you can book hunts for $30000, you leave them alone. If the hunting stops, you kill them all.

I have hunted Africa. I remember seeing numerous cheetahs in Namibia, my PH said they are quite common, but I interjected that the US wouldn’t allow us to import them. His words, were, of course, so our hunters from Germany and Spain kill them. Only the US thinks they are extinct. Us not importing them, due to the laws of supply and demand, just lets someone else hunt them.

As one that grew up on a farm/cattle ranch, is there more game on the land of people that hunt, or on those that don’t give a damn about hunting. I can answer that one!

Now the megalomaniac is ‘making laws’ for other countries.

When does he begin enacting law on Mars?
