We have three radio stations in our are that play Christmas songs all day and another three that play one about every third song. What is interestingly absent are the silly songs like:
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dec9Jb_Ac4
Dear Santa (a personal favorite, the kid from Yemen wanting a grenade launcher is great): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jtd3GR38wo
Or you ain't gettin diddly squat cause you really messed up this year (not that I like it, but it annoys my grand daughter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoINm3ZWlAE
along with All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, All the chipmunk songs, Grandma got run over (thank goodness), basically anything silly.
They also do not play anything overly religious. I have called and all they say is they don't play those.
Anyone know what's up?
By the way, I'd be happy NOT to hear any John Lennon Christmas songs, Wham or George Michael Christmas songs, Mannheim Steam Roller songs, Maddona Christmas songs, and any collaboration of pop musicians lecturing us about the world via some crappy Christmas song.
Fortunately I have a massive Christmas music library and I'm cycling through that right now. I've been collecting Christmas music for over 30 years and I pretty much have it all.
Looks like a serious kind of merry this year.
Well I know, but that doesn’t explain it all... the 2 front teeth song didn’t offend anybody, unless it was dentists.
Up on the roof top......
What a fun thread, thanks.
Forgot the link :-)
Canned Heat and the Chipmunks, "The Christmas Song"
Albert King, "Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'"
Buchanan & Goodman, "Santa and the Satellite"
Eartha Kitt, "Santa Baby"
Allan Sherman, "The Twelve Days of Christmas"
But, let's throw in one beautiful one . . .
I’m not a fan of the silly songs, but I hit the roof when Sirius XM dropped their Holiday Pops station except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
That was the only station that played classical (religious) Christmas songs.
What’s on regular radio is hideous.
Regards,
A local here does. Light 96.9. They play everything. What I hate, tho, is the modern pop which ruins it. “So This Is Christmas” makes me want to throw the radio through the window. As well as “Do They Know It’s Christmas”. Both in minor keys and sanctimonious.
That’s one of the amazing things about America, the choice. We don’t have to force anything on anybody to have what we want with very easy convenience. Sometimes we can get so wrought up in condemnations about how this entity or that isn’t in the ho-ho-holiday spirit, that we throw away that spirit ourselves.
The old Frank Silent Night, not the one he did late in life where he sounds like he is on death’s doorstep. Same for Rosemary Clooney, great singer, but the Giraldi Christmas time is here that she does, again late in life, is cause for self injury.
I just figured out the one thing FR has been missing all these years - background music. We could select from a number of different genres depending on the thread...
Oh shoot, I need to shut up and patent this right away,,..
Ain’t it funny any time someone tries to dig close to Christ, SLAM comes the condemnation. With a little emendation, more of this stuff than you’d think would be perfectly right on.
I always liked this one...
The Penguins-A Christmas Prayer

Yes, that is the version I prefer.
I also enjoy the Ray Conniff Singers.
For silly, I have heard “Up On the Housetop” by Gene Autry a few times.
