Give this man a medal. In just two minutes, blacksmith Trenton Tye of Purgatory Ironworks uses science to hilarious effect to mock 9/11 truthers who insist the 2001 terrorist attacks were a conspiracy. And why are these nutters convinced the whole thing was an inside job? Because fire canât melt steel (Seriously, read through that entire 9/11 conspiracy theory thread. It is amazing.)
Tye, a professional metalworker based in Georgia, has had enough. He filmed the following video to prove to science-hating 9/11 conspiracy mongers once and for all that structural steel will absolutely lose its structural integrity if it gets too hot:

I’ve melted many a piece of steel in a coal forge. I’ve also melted steel with a propane, acetylene and Mapp gas cutting torch.
Shucks, I’ve even got steel red hot in a common wood stove. Forged my first knife heated in a wood stove.
What probably happened on 9-11 is the fires caused the bolts holding the I beams to lose their temper, and they sheared off causing the entire floors to collapse and pancake on the ones below them.

Actually they were dressed to fit in with the commuting crowd. They looked normal enough. But they sounded like the utter loons that they are.

Stick a piece of re-bar in a coal forge, turn the air flow on High and watch the fire works.
As the steel gets white hot it begins to throw off lots of sparks, and as the steel melts, melted white hot steel will blow out just like fireworks.
I’ve ruined several pieces of ironwork by letting them get overheated while I was beating another piece on the anvil.

The sag of the joist over-stressed the joist/load bearing wall connection, further contributing to the floors collapsing. The spray on fire-proofing’s poor insulation contributed to the rapidity in loss of strength. High winds, ever present at the upper floors, provided the bellows effect of stoking the flames. On that cloudless morning the evidence of wind force was nit present until the fires were fully engaged. Present in the videos from Jersey and Brooklyn sides.

I have charred beams in my barn that were salvaged from a burned railroad bridge near here about 100 years ago.
They retained their strength enough to be used in barn construction.
Have you ever seen how the construct buildings and asked yourself why do they spray on fire resistant insulation on it?
Also why the fire marshal’s think it’s a big deal when the insulation starts to fall off
My favorite scene in that whole movie was Telly Savalas out-flying the govt. helicopters in his bi-plane. That was some excellent stunt-flying by the real pilot.
Wish I had saved a sample of our garage door opener springs after we had an intense fire in our garage.
Those springs are so strong that, if they break while they are stretched, they can literally kill you.
We had one break when the door was almost down, and it went through the wall and broke a 2X4 stud on the way! That's why I threaded steel safety cables through the springs when I replaced them.
BUT -- after the fire, when they were cool, I could take those once-powerful springs, straighten them out, and tie them in knots -- with my bare hands...
Beyond a doubt, when they were at the temperature that annealed them, they were even far weaker...

Pardon my lack of a comprehensive peer-reviewed treatise on the subject. Others have provided that re: WTC collapse.
Start a HOT fire in such a building, and let it burn a while, and (exact chemistry escapes me, and I don’t know exactly which building materials were used) either the tempered steel loses its tempering (causing collapse), or you literally burn away the material (causing collapse). You’ll notice that whichever chemistry is involved, the consequence is collapse.
My LOX comment was retorting to the “my barbecue doesn’t melt/collapse” comment by observing that if you burn a sufficiently hot fire, your barbecue DOES melt/collapse (or as depending on materials, burn/collapse). It was also an excuse to reference something I found amusing.
And watching that video snippet shows the collapse beginning in exactly the area suffering intense heat, with the rest of the structure promptly following as a gazillion tons of upper building systematically crushes the some-weakened, some-overwhelmed supports.
And rather than insulting someone for not presenting perfect comprehension of a complex subject in a casual comment, how about you show YOUR advanced knowledge and explain to us what happens when a jet-fuel-and-office-materials fire burns for 45 minutes against structural supports for a couple dozen or so stores of very large building there above? Either the hardened/tempered metals involved weaken from prolonged exposure to intense heat, or they literally burn away - right? Do inform me.
I was standing at the police barricade along West Broadway maybe 10 blocks north of WTC7 when it came down. Unless the laws of physics have changed any detonations should have been audible (watch a typical implosion video). All we heard was ... silence. Until the roar of the collapsing structure reached us (2 or so seconds after it began its fall).
“Truther” idiots believe that a piece of steel in a blacksmith’s forge is the same as a structural steel member in a building, bearing tremendous loads. As has been noted many times, heavily loaded structural steel has only to get very hot (not even CLOSE to melting) to lose temper and bend, which leads to collapse. And as noted many times, that’s why fireproofing is sprayed on steel beams, trusses, joists and columns in buildings after the building steel has been erected.
