Texas senator and aspiring GOP presidential nominee Ted Cruz is widely depicted by liberal amnesty backers as a diehard enemy of their brand of immigration reform.
While Cruz voted against the 2013 "Gang of Eight" immigration bill and has strongly opposed President Barack Obama's executive amnesty plans, he has also taken positions that sound strikingly different from those of staunch amnesty opponents such as Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions.
Sessions, for example, has been sharply critical of expanding the number of H-1B visas, pointing to abuses in the program and arguing that it harms American workers.
But speaking with Javier Palomarez, president of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday afternoon, Cruz declared that "there is no stronger advocate for legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than himself," The Weekly Standard reported.
The Texas Republican pointed to his support for an amendment to the Gang of Eight bill two years ago that would expand the number of H-1B visas.

Everyone is for immigration reform.
The current system is broken.
The first and most important immigration reform is to enforce the border.
True.
“...Cruz has changed his stance on those a bit since then.”
A “bit” is an accurate description.
I love Cruz. If this were 2008, or almost any other year, no question Cruz would be the choice. But times have changed, the country has changed, the media has changed. I think Trump currently has the pulse of the nation, for good and ill. He's the only one I see capable of going over, under, around, and through the opposition to get stuff done. His comment on Cruz was very telling. He didn't as Rush said, say "work with Democrats." He said Cruz in essence didn't get much done because he didn't "cajole" or work with people. To me, that is Trumpspeak for "You work behind the scenes to WIN." (Think Dirty Harry and Nancy Pelosi and the Obamacare bill).
That said, Cruz has his style, Trump has his. I don't think Trump strategically plans to "attack" anyone. I think it's his competitiveness and how he responds, which is EXACTLY what I want in a president. "Oh, so France, you don't want to help us in Iraq? I'm sure we can find some things we're doing to help you that we can suddenly stop."
Now, all that said, if you look at National Journal and National Review Online and Twitter over the last three weeks---ever since Carson began to fade---the GOPe writers (who hate Trump) have done everything they can to build up Cruz. Normally, I'd love that---except they don't mean it one iota. They are doing this for one reason only, because he is their "last hope, Obi Wan" to stopping Trump.
But let me reiterate: Ted Cruz is a great conservative, a truly classy guy. I don't have an argument with him on (supposedly) most policies he has---although I do have questions about some of his votes as to how he saw those votes as advancing those policies. Still, in a pre-Obama world, Cruz would be the guy.
We are not in that world anymore, and the arms that are going to be needed to turn this ship around are bigger than what Ted currently has.
snore. No beef in this statement. Try again.
Oops, from his own mouth. Let’s see how this gets spun.

MSNBC reported last month that Cruz’s office had indicated that “he remains open to a path to legal status for undocumented workers, putting him at odds with conservatives who deride such a position as unacceptable ‘amnesty.’”
I hear ya.
As a Trump supporter I am concerned about the ethanol and Scalia missteps this weekend. I need to do some study, I do not know enough to voice a proper opinion.
I work on a 3 strikes you are out candidate scoring. Trump is not there yet. Cruz passed it long ago. I am not a bit afraid of throwing both of them to the curb when they earn it. I don’t invest emotion into ANY politician.
I know one thing, I’m not going to cast my vote for the lesser of the evils again.
So, gonna take a break and do some thinking, research. I just wish others would.
Right now, the whole thing comes down to really two issues: the border/immigration and security/Islam.
I’m sorry but when you are a candidate for President of the United States and you still can’t articulate what you would do with the 11-20 million illegals currently here in the US then you are talking amnesty. The answer is not hard.
