Great one!
Lots of safe, legal Jack Benny here for his fans:

Those shows were good.
They don’t make shows like that anymore.
Poor Mel Blanc! One year Jack bought shoelaces for a gift, then asked the clerk to have them gift wrapped, then exchanged them four times.
I get a kick out of everyone in that skit being dressed up to go shopping. Women in their Sunday best with hats, gloves, high heels. The men in their suits. Go to the store today and shoppers look like bums.
And yes, I’m one of those bums. Haven’t worn a dress since I retired in 2008.
This is a great episode. Hope people tune in.

I met Rochester a few times in the late 50’s, early 60’s. He used to stop at my grandparents cafe on the way to Vegas. Nice guy. Liked grandmothers southern cooking. Interesting, my grandfathers dad grew up in a home that owned a slave. He, gggf fought in the cival war, south.
Did you notice the great big Merry Christmas banner in the store? Don’t see that anymore.
I think Jack Benny was the funniest man in show business. The only man who could reduce you to gales of laughter just by looking at you.
Thanks for posting this.
You can get all the old Jack Benny radio shows streaming on Old Time Radio. I have listened to all of them at least once.
Charming, funny, pleasant entertainment. Love it!
Oh, and he respected and honored the troops and had no problem saying “Merry Christmas.”
Funny.
