Pitbull owner faces murder charge after dogs maul, kill 4-year-old ( Detroit )

The owner of four pitbulls is facing a murder charge after his dogs mauled to death a 4-year-old boy in Detroit, Michigan.

Geneke Antonio Lyons, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and possessing dangerous animals causing death, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The vicious attack occurred last week as the boy and his mother were walking together down the street. The dogs attacked the pair and dragged the child under a fence and into Lyons' backyard, where the boy was found lying on his back with "massive wounds," according to the prosecutor's office.

Three of the dogs involved were shot on the spot by police; the fourth was taken into police custody and later euthanized. The prosecutor's office stated that the dogs were a known problem in the neighborhood and that they had escaped their fenced area in the past.

It has to be someones fault and it most definitely isn't the dead child's fault or the child's parents. The dog is not smart enough to know. Especially, if the owners don't train it correctly or they teach it to be aggressive or a fighter. So... that leaves the owner of the dog.

Dog lovers are generally totally blind to anything that their animals do that annoy or injure other people. My idiot cousin (some 10 - 12 years ago) had a rescue dog that she had out (without a leash) that bit a jogger. Her response when discussed in family setting? "It only bit him once, and what business did he have jogging down the street where I walk my dog anyway." She was totally serious. In her eyes it was the fault of the jogger. Fortunately for her the guy didn't sue her. I would have.

I know somebody who rescued a pit. In less than a year, the pit has killed one dog and almost killed another one. Owner’s been charged both times. I can’t believe animal control hasn’t taken the dog away, but he still has him and is shelling out beaucoup bucks to keep him and deal with the legal bills.

Reminds me of a friend who let his kids play in the street, he wanted to get a speed limit sign installed! told him to stop your kids from playing in the street. No, he wanted to cars to slow down, well Ok, but they can be just as dead at 25 mph.

But seriously: Why not reduce the speed limit to a "walking pace" - at least in residential neighborhood? Because the drivers are in "too much of a hurry?"

First and foremost, it's bad breeders. and then it's bad owners. If you breed a dog to be vicious, it will be vicious. If you raise a dog to be vicious, it will be vicious. If you do both, someone is going to get hurt, guaranteed. Dobermans and shepherds experienced similar problems.
