The zombie apocalypse, it would seem, is an infinite source of story inspiration. What would individuals become? What would humanity devolve to? What would the world turn into? And yet somehow, The Walking Dead has managed to become the most boring show on television. Granted, I do not watch every single show on TV (because even work-from-home writers need to shower sometimes), but I can say with fair certainty Iâd rather watch that show about Alaskan prospectors than AMCâs zombie saga. And when I say that I mean an episode where they prospect almost nothing at all. Thatâs how boring The Walking Dead has become.
(Itâs worth mentioning here that Iâm about to get into some spoilers, but most of them are a few seasons old by now. With that being said, letâs get on with the showâ¦)
Let me qualify this announcement: TWD wasnât always boring. It had a strong start, and a gripping first few seasons that might be comparable to Lost, another show which long outstayed its welcome. When viewers first entered the world of TWD, as we did with Lost, we were immediately thrown into the middle of catastrophe. The first episode of TWD taps into a very specific, very universal apocalypse anxiety. Namely, that is that the apocalypse will happen when weâre not looking, and that weâll walk out into it alone, with no context for what happened, and no information about the state the world is in. And like Lost, thereâs the mystery of the CDC, which is very Dharma Initiative-y, and the hermit scientist Jenner is very Desmond inside the hatch-y (although not half as handsome).
Indeed, TWDâs first season is responsible for some of the most iconic imagery in recent television history.

My belief is that this show is not a horrow show, it is actually a western.
Brilliant observation.
TWD has become too boring for Kat George.
That must mean we have heard the last from ‘ol Kat
on the subject. Nice to get her out of the way.
Nothing worse than watching a program with a chirpy
naysayer hanging around.
Yes. They really need to fix this. It's been going on for several weeks now and it is making this place damn near unreadable.
Andrew Lincoln is on contract through Season 9. They could turn Rick into a walker and we could follow him around for the next three seasons as s shuffles, grunts and eats people.
And to think HBO passed on this show.
Maggie would've been sooooo much more awesome on HBO.
Okay, be that way...be all hardcore and stuff!
Well, the rifles muzzle was next to Abraham in the cab. Daryl still gave up without a fight. He woosed out.
That's what I thought to. But they actually made the under-the-dumpster move believable.
The walkers crawled in after Glenn. He stabbed them in the head with his knife and their bodies acted as a barrier. He was sealed in by walkers. The rest of them eventually lost interest (having feasted on Nicholas) and wandered away.
The guys don't really clean up...still look good, though!
“Having observed many of the dumpsters in my area, I feel it was perfectly acceptable that he was able to crawl underneath that particular one...........Oh well....”
The issue isnt the ability to crawl under a dumpster. The issue is its not plausible that crawling under a dumpster would save you from being in the middle of a zombie feeding frenzy.
Oh yeah! If they kill her or Daryl off, I’m done watching. I HATED it when they killed off Hershel, I really liked him, too. They played some good music during prison scenes with Hershel, that season really had good music but the music is lacking now.
NOPE!! It is not, as long Darryl is in the show, and they better keep him in the show. I still enjoy the show however Morgan is getting to me. I can’t handle all this KUMBAYA crap.
come on bro, you got 7 armed dudes with rifles and shotguns on motorcycles out in front of your truck and you're going to step out of the truck with a rifle and try to do a shoot out??????????
Look at that scene again, there is no way in hell Daryl or anyone in that truck has a chance for a shoot out.......
They were on a ROLL--then came to a screeching halt for Morgan's flashback episode. Every episode since then feels like they're trying to regain their footing--except for the Darryl/Abraham/Sasha detour. That one was welcome relief.
They've stuck to the "same day" gimmick too long. It worked GREAT for the first three episodes. Really cranked up the tension. But this isn't 24. We don't need to see every minute of their lives, especially in Alexandria. Oh look Deanna wants to plant crops!
Come to think of it, we haven't had one night time episode this season. It seems like it's all taking place at 2 o'clock in the afternoon--even Morgan's flashback. (Seriously--were there any night scenes at Dr. Phil's cabin? I can't remember any.)
When Glenn emerged from under the dumpster it should have been DARK, just to give us the sense that time had passed. But no, it was still 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
At the very least it should have been dark when he and the girl returned to Alexandria.
Oh, okay....
Geeeeeeze, enough already...
It’s a show that many have watched for a freakin’ long time....
If you hate it, don’t watch it...
Leave it alone....
I agree. Much more entertaining.
Fear the Walking Dead seemed to be pretty good, too, at least in terms of showing normalcy bias, and feral/possible government actions along with the crisis. I'm waiting to see how that one goes.
Showing how Morgan came back to sanity from “Clear” wasn’t a waste, but devoting so much time to “all life is sacred, including the evil” undermines the survival of the group in the show and survival of the show in general.
I read somewhere that people like zombie shows because all the survivors are conservative or eaten. Alexandria has a bunch of ignorant liberals, resistant to education to reality. But instead of progressively educating them about “yo, zombies, they’ll kill you, improve your defenses” and “learn to kill them, in case grandma over there dies at night”, we get liberals lecturing the survivors on not having guns and bad views while demanding that the survivors still go get supplies and fight if not die to protect the group. In that regard, Alexandria liberals are like the typical one - I hate you, you’re inferior, you’re a danger for me, but feed and protect me.
But giving the Alexandrians way more than a sympathetic light makes viewers dislike the show, while educating them can be exciting and emotionally rewarding to viewers.
Well, that's a 5-star endorsement, if I ever read one.
Even if it is true.
The mother in that family should not have left that hispanic kid alone at his home, and they were both STUPID for leaving all the food and medicine behind knowing that it would be harder to ever come back.
