The Walking Dead has become the most boring show on television
NY Post ^ | December 5, 2015 | Kat George

The zombie apocalypse, it would seem, is an infinite source of story inspiration. What would individuals become? What would humanity devolve to? What would the world turn into? And yet somehow, The Walking Dead has managed to become the most boring show on television. Granted, I do not watch every single show on TV (because even work-from-home writers need to shower sometimes), but I can say with fair certainty I’d rather watch that show about Alaskan prospectors than AMC’s zombie saga. And when I say that I mean an episode where they prospect almost nothing at all. That’s how boring The Walking Dead has become.

(It’s worth mentioning here that I’m about to get into some spoilers, but most of them are a few seasons old by now. With that being said, let’s get on with the show…)

Let me qualify this announcement: TWD wasn’t always boring. It had a strong start, and a gripping first few seasons that might be comparable to Lost, another show which long outstayed its welcome. When viewers first entered the world of TWD, as we did with Lost, we were immediately thrown into the middle of catastrophe. The first episode of TWD taps into a very specific, very universal apocalypse anxiety. Namely, that is that the apocalypse will happen when we’re not looking, and that we’ll walk out into it alone, with no context for what happened, and no information about the state the world is in. And like Lost, there’s the mystery of the CDC, which is very Dharma Initiative-y, and the hermit scientist Jenner is very Desmond inside the hatch-y (although not half as handsome).

Indeed, TWD’s first season is responsible for some of the most iconic imagery in recent television history.

“What I find annoying is they are scripting the same old stupid moves over and over. They do no seem to learn from past mistakes. Well, Carol seems to learn. I agree, I am finding the show particularly annoying because of this nonsense.”

Not to mention the magical survival of Glenn which was completely ridiculous.

A few topless scenes of Maggie slowly taking a shower would improve ratings tremendously. :)

I know early on they tried to pass the cause off as some kind of virus, but its obviously impossible.

ROFLMAO!.......I'm laughing because my take on your statement implies that there is some other way to actually legitimize the existence of ZOMBIES..............LOL!

Sorry I can’t get with the Zombie deal. I watched a few episodes of the first season and gave up. I find I have a hard time now watching episodic TV anymore.
Almost rather watch “Dallas” reruns, J.R. I can understand.

O NO THEY DI'INT!!!!!

Welp. They totally sacrificed any credible continuity. LOOK AT THE SCENE THEY LEFT HIM IN. Surrounded by HUNDREDS of walkers from ALL angles. Eventually the other dude would be stripped of flesh. Guess who would HAVE to have been dinner?

Now I am wondering if there's any reason to watch those backlogged episodes at all. Maybe it's time to just let it go. It was a good show while it lasted.

That RPG has to play into the story somewhere

I agree with you, nothing is left to chance in this series.

With that being said, weren't there more than one RPG's in that box?

Oh, I agree, I loved the second season. And I think Daryl still needs to be Rick’s right-hand man, instead of sending him off with Aaron. (Hopefully that’s over). The old bada## Daryl with hardcore Rick...yeah, perfect team.

I’m to the point where I want Morgan to just die. I’m totally done.

Agree about Carol, too...she was fantastic, stalking the streets of Alexandria in that black coat. Morgan and Father Gabriel were talking to that injured wolf, and she walked right up and—in the middle of their conversation!-—BLAM, blew his brains out, lol.

I wonder if it’s time for new blood to replace Scott Gimple.

On a somewhat related note, you were going to arrange something for me...

*cough*

I thought Zombieland (2009) was a pretty funny movie.

"“CORAL! CORAL! CORAL!!!”"

LOL!!

I've actually come to like that one!

I can only think of one other lingual misstep by Andrew Lincoln. It was the first episode of the second season, and he was on the walkie talkie to Morgan. He described being in Atlanta with a "scien-TIST."

I still say the series needs to bring in Chuck Norris as "Walker, Texas Walker" (or "Walker, Texas Walker-Stalker").

Yeah, they are fagging Daryl up bad.

I would disagree, they're setting up Daryl for a rope-a-dope..........

For the last several episodes he's been in a minority position and unable to be the badass he really is. You can tell by his demeanor that he is gritting his teeth and just waiting for his chance........

I think in the second half of this season we will see the real Daryl when he has to deal with the Negan guy.................

I would say watch the reveal ep and see if you buy it.

I’m a sucker, and I don’t want to lose a member of the fambly, so of course I was going to.

My belief is that this show is not a horrow show, it is actually a western. These groups are tribes of new indians in a new world. They can look to westerns for inspiration.

Back at the prison I wanted them to stop scavenging and start building. I wanted them to use the nearby railroad. In an apocalyptic scenario like TWD, what they have lost the most is knowledge of how things worked. Eugene is not a scientist, but he is a PHD. Make him the lead scientist and start him building a steam engine. Daryl knows how to build a moonshine still. That's an important piece of technology. Get farming again. Don't go out on run to get supplies, go get library books. This can be interesting because this still fits the zombie genre. The popularity of zombie shows is that it stimulates the viewer to think about what they would do in that situation. Figuring out how to grow crops or capture and train horses still fills that niche. They don't need to just find other groups and shoot them. They can make interesting stories where they compete with a dangerous group, but outlast the others because they get horses while the others stay with cars but eventually run out of gaseline. The choices they make can still lead to success or failure.

One of my favorite episodes is Vatos from the first season. This is where Glen was kidnapped by a latino gang and held in exchange for guns. Rick was going to go in shooting, but in a twist, the latino gang was protecting the residents of a nursing home. Encounters don't always have to end in a fight. They can learn to trade and cooperate.

Having observed many of the dumpsters in my area, I feel it was perfectly acceptable that he was able to crawl underneath that particular one...........Oh well....

He should be walker material.

It was an interesting twist but I felt the reveal sucked. Some grandma blows the cover and the leader just folds and goes all 'little boy aw shucks'? Nah.

In real life, and what would have made much better theater, is if he barked back at the Grandma and acted all tough still. It would be the first clue that something was other than it appeared, but you wouldn't know for sure. Spend about 10 minutes of Rick observing the actions and behaviors of the 'gang', and THEN have him take the guy and say, in a gentle but forceful manner, "I respect you and your strength. However, I also respect people who care for the helpless."

It would have been a killer line and a much better arc.

The only way is if they constructed a human hamster sphere.

OMG I JUST SOLVED THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! Every time they go out, they go out in these huge hamster spheres!

EASY PEASY!
