In past weeks, shocking terrorist attacks have rattled nations in both Western and Eastern Europe. The spectacular Islamic State assault on Paris brought the Syrian conflict to the West's doorstep, while in Egypt, the destruction of a Russian civilian airliner by an ISIL-planted bomb harkened back to the chaotic days of the Chechen conflict. In the wake of such events, the leaders of both countries, already militarily involved in Syria and Iraq, have entertained the idea of greater co-operation - Francois Hollande even visited Moscow last week. Russia has said it hopes to assemble what Vladimir Putin has termed a "grand coalition" to combat terrorist threats in the region, ostensibly the Islamic State.
The idea has considerable pull in Western capitals. France is understandably seeking retribution for the carnage in Paris, while for America, wary of taking a leading role in yet another Middle Eastern war, ceding responsibility is likely tempting. But the West should not accept Russia's offer. Not only are Russian forces incapable of providing substantive support to coalition operations, they are fundamentally fighting a different war with a different goal than Paris and Washington, the means of which are contradictory to the objective of countering Sunni extremism.

Let me guess, this was written by Obama, or by his henchmen at Media Matters.
Russia has exposed Erdogan, and in so doing, also exposed anyone in the West who is allied with him.

The Syrian Army, which was headed for defeat, is now on the offense and taking ISIS and FSA territory.
The Kurds are liberating huge areas of ISIS territory and blocking most ISIS trade with Turkey.
ISIS defections are at an all time high.
ISIS oil revenue and war revenue is about to plummet.
Yeah - I would say Russia has had an “effect”
Change ‘Russia’ to ‘Obama’ in the headline and it makes perfect sense.
I remember a few weeks ago some of you were all going gaga over Putin.
Weeks later and that bombing has done squat.
How many oil tankers has Canada destroyed? Eh?
That’s correct.
What’s ‘flat’ is several ISIS operations centers, and about 1500 ISIS oil tankers.
Obama’s goal is to take out Assad, and Putin’s goal is to keep Assad in there. So far I would say Putin’s ahead on that score.
We will never be able to kill them all until we have burned every last instruction manual from their prophet.
YEP
the bombs fall flat on the heads of the jihadi gay caballeros
They’ve barely started and already achieved more than Obama.
or the ValJar Propaganda Unit then disseminated to the MSM distribution network.
Hard to tell. Seems the author didn’t want to have his name on the piece.
What koolaid aid has this guy been drinking? After only 60 days the Russians are doing some real housecleaning.
Now can Putin Iran and Assad withstand the machinations and sabotage and treachery of the West and its employers in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf?
Remains to be seen
