The celebration of Thanksgiving may be a beloved tradition, but one group of Native Americans has revealed what the holiday really means to them in a moving video series that dispels the historical inaccuracies and stereotypes associated with their culture. As part of Cut.com's One Word video series, a group of men and women from the Native American community have shared their thoughts on the words: Thanksgiving, Christopher Columbus, reservation and redskins. And while many of the men and women agree that the 'redskins' is an 'offensive' and 'racist' term, the group shared different opinions about what it means to celebrate Thanksgiving as a Native American.

I wonder why they dont allow White Straight Cis men to give their response to “feminist”, “progressive”, “political correctness”, “cultural appropriation” and so on?
Self-righteous, paternalistic white liberals speaking on behalf of Indians.

>>The Civilizations in Meso-America and Peru were at least on a par with those of the late Bronze age. and they had a written language.
Late Bronze Age? That’s a stretch. Was it a true written language with examples of preserved literature or mostly just a means of record-keeping?
The moral of the story is don’t let religious fanatics into your country until they have been fully vetted.
“Some of the interviewees explained how the word came from the horrific treatment of Native Americans, including the collecting of scalps.”
Talk about the leftist re-writing of history!
But thanks for the steel knives and iron pots so we don’t have to weave a basket and toss hot rocks in it to make things warm.
Nearly all of the tribes in the Caribbean who weren’t Caribs were darn glad to see Columbus.
Yep. They’re kin to more of the “white eyes” than they
would like to think. - On both parents’ sides of family,
I’m part redskin. Have many of the physical evidences of
being Indian, too. They may not claim me; wouldn’t blame
‘em if they didn’t. - The main one I’m proud of is the
“smart bump” at the base of the back of my neck.
As a half-breed Mojave/Prussian (yeah, i know ... stubborn meets stubborn squared), I have NO QUALMS about Thanksgiving; the Pilgrims landing - with the endorsement of landing and leaving what became Provincetown very quickly, and frimly lanfing at what is now Plymouth; nor the title redskins - used because of a pigment applied to protect from sunburns, as told to me by a Mashpee tribal elder; and yes, there were massacres, but that came LATER, if you look into the King Philip wars, it was not all a, ahem, white-sided affair.
(How did Native tribal members become ‘warriors’, if the Pilgrims had not yet landed?? Upon WHOM had they made war, to attain such a title???)
I’m going to start calling myself a white-skin and see if I feel offended. In fact, maybe the Washington football team should try that on for size. How does the Washington Whiteskins sound?
The Lakota claim the Black Hills as their land.
Excuse me
They drove out the Arikara, Cheyenne and the Crow first
When there were Native Americans only on the continent was the only time black crime was non existent.
Pre-America America was just a chunk of land with poorly defended borders. Then a bunch of immigrants came along, without permission, and put down roots.
How could the left complain about that? If they are, why aren’t they complaining about the people who are invading our country now?
They going to dredge up the old “sell blankets covered with smallpox” again?
ouch. They’re in a death spiral.
On topic, some tribes practiced human sacrifice.
Massacre is what happened to my family that first am over in the 18th century. They tried to make nice to the Indians. And the women were greeted with Tomahawks one night and the men were kidnapped and brought into the tribe after which they managed to escape. I wonder why no one seems to care about me and my feelings from the Indians.
Pleez....They used to kill each other. That damn tribal thing.
