Leave him with the green bean casserole and half a roll. If he complains, tell him he had an overprivileged plate and he's a greedy bastard for not wanting to share with the less fortunate animals in the house who don't have thumbs or the ability to work to buy their own turkey. I have found it is best to remain low-key with my disagreements about faith and politics with family members who don’t share my core values. They are a minority in my family firmly stuck in a leftists world of academia and agnosticism, but my home and table are a testament to my faith and values. They return every year, they do not seek conflict over faith or politics (they are very polite), and we have a nice time.
I believe my family/home is the best reflection of what I believe. I also believe the testimony of our lives and those of our family is a positive influence. I would firmly and politely put an end to any nastiness if that were an issue.
My way to shut up the Left is to tell them about my experiences in Hong Kong during the 1967 Communist riots inspired by the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in next-door China. Can’t refute that!

there was a thread here the other day, about a website set up by Democrats, with talking points to talk to your Republican uncle about the issues of the day.
In my experience, it tends to be the liberals who start arguments about politics and social issues at family get togethers.
It seems to me that, just in general, the liberals are never happy. They tend to want to talk about all that they see wrong with the world and their lives, rather than ever wanting to count their blessings.

PS: Ann is a very bright lady who makes her way in the highly competitive business of commodity and currency trading.
In my house we have a rule. If politics is spoken, the minute the lib utters a negative comment that person is called an idiot. In my home during the holidays, politics is not spoken. We thank God for our bounty and tell each other how grateful we are.
It has worked that way for three generations. No point on changing it now.
