I'd like to hear fellow FReeper comments on this current Twitter phenomenon. It seems to be a strong spotlight on what is wrong with race relations in this country right now.
There is a hashtag trending right now, #Thanksgivingwithblackfamilies. It's everything warm and funny and self-deprecating. It's a joy to read and see the funny meme photo or gif choices for their tweets. There are even comments from people about how much they love their people and their families. I am white but it's somehow relatable to me anyway and I really enjoyed reading this hashtag. Themes to the tweets are about uncles blessing the food for 10 minutes, aunts saying they haven't seen you since you were 6 months old, do you remember them? Etc.
Then I went to see if there was a similar one for white families. There is: #Thanksgivingwithwhitefamilies. It has only two themes and seems to be mostly contributed to by nonwhites. The themes are that the food is terrible, no seasonings allowed, and that whites are racists and school shooters. Example: when your uncle tells you he only shot up 7 schools in the 1970s. Or what's this strong spice you put on the turkey this year? Salt.
I don't feel this is ok, that white people have become in pop culture barely human. Do we not see that being cruel to one race only is how we get Naziism? I wonder how young white people feel when they see these Twitter trends and see that black people seem to have the social freedom to joke around about themselves and enjoy it, but white people do not have that social freedom?
This example is so glaring it's like racism 100 years ago against blacks. WAS THAT WRONG OR NOT? Was that only wrong to be racist against black people, to seemingly (and wrongly) agree as a society that they were inferior? Or is that a moral wrong against anyone? It is time for society to discuss this openly in public. IS RACISM OK AGAINST WHITES? Remember that none of the generation(s) on Twitter were around when racism was done to blacks.
I'm really sad about this. My sons have friends of all ethnicities. Yet they are learning along with all other young white people that they are not even allowed to be a part of a fun trend because of their skin color.
Stop playing on Twitter Ir are you just looking to be offended?
That is not the answer.
Blacks (I assume) are calling us gun happy murderers who boil our food and can’t handle seasonings. And they are laughing. And this is ok.
There must be some way to open some kind of discussion about what our open society has become. What we have taught our children is ok.
Don’t worry about it. White people aren’t allowed to have anything. /s
...but there is this site:

The usual way, work hard, don't do drugs, don't commit crimes or blame anyone else for your failures except yourself.
Oh, and don't give a crap of what other people say about you.
Quit finding stuff on Twitter to cry about
That site is also put together by a non white.
You sweetly joke that whites people are allowed to have nothing, as if we have any superiority that lets us in on some joke. We don’t have any superiority, but we sure don’t need inferiority either.
I long for a colorblind society where tribes are kind to one another and feel equal to one another.
Yes, see, that is on the #Thanksgivingwithblackfamilies Thread and it’s funny! I enjoy the trend. But the white families one is not at all funny. Guns and under salted food?
Yeah, you said that already. I only brought it here because here we do discuss society and racism and this trend shows that in public (Twitter is public and more diverse than the media info) we have some pretty strong racism that is accepted. I thought FReepers might be able to honestly discuss it as the media would never dare.
Where one or more is mad at one or more for real or perceived wrongs.
Then it's, can't wait for these Holidays to be over with!
Stop finding stuff to cry about on Twitter. Get over it.
Mom won't be with us this year. 8^( May she rest in peace.

Stay out of the twitters.
“under salted food?”
I thought cracker Thanksgiving was about deep fried turkeys and beer?
Agreed! I & my husband do no social media. People could be slagging me off all day long & I would not know nor would I care. I can’t get everything done in my life as it is. I can’t imagine wasting my time tweeting & FBing. Roll on, live life!
a chicken in every pot, an Obama Phone and a 60 inch flatscreen in every house..
Twitter is for twits.
One of the building blocks of western humor is laying low those who are in charge. When the white male stops running America we’ll stop being the butt of jokes. Until then, suck it up, and remember the statistics say you’ll live longer than them, make more money than them, and just generally have a richer more fulfilling life that them.
I don’t know anything about twitter social trends...I am a old white guy.
(I do have a twitter account however)
Yesterday evening after finding out that my wife was going to be out of town visiting the grandkids over Thanksgiving, my neighbor, who is black, invited me to dinner because she is “cookin up a storm” as she said...
So that’s my contribution to social trends...
