Chicago gets its largest November snowfall in 120 years.

The season's first snowfall dropped as much as 17 inches across Chicago's northern suburbs, and the total of 11.2 inches at O'Hare International Airport made it the largest November snowfall in 120 years.

...

According to the weather service, this was the second-largest November snowstorm, behind only a 12-inch snowfall Nov. 25-26, 1895.

This month is catapulted to the fourth snowiest November on record with more than a week remaining. The three snowiest Novembers were: 1940 with 14.8 inches, 1895 with 14.5 inches and 1951 with 14.3 inches.

You’d think this area has never seen snow like this before. What a non story. Yes it happened earlier than normal, but still, big deal.

I have a question. Is Chicago in the same situation as Cleveland? It has been a warm October and November, so Lake Erie is no where near freezing. When the Great Lakes aren't frozen, any storm blowing across them pulls in massive amounts of moisture.

In that instance, a warm autumn can lead to a very snowy winter.

I’m confused or stupid, or both.

How can it go from being the snowiest in 120 years to being the second then the fourth largest?

Put it in railcars and ship it to California.

Because it is culturally insensitive and borderline microaggressive to assign reporter Marwa Eltagouri to write an article about snow. He/she never grew up seeing snow — how would you expect him/her to write a clear article about it? You are clearly a relic of the white patriarchical heteronormative ruling class. White Winters Don’t Matter!

Clearly this is evidence of Republicans bad.

That took me a moment as well, but it makes sense.

This snowfall (single-day) was the largest in 120 yrs... none bigger since 1895

The snowfall that was larger was 120 years ago, but no other recorded snowfall before that was larger than this one, so it is still #2 all-time...

And the fourth-largest is referring to total NOV snow accumulation, not a single-day NOV snowfall... some Novembers didn't have such a large single-day dump of snow, but likely had several days of snow with higher totals... but this one was so big that it alone put this NOV in the top four, with over a week to go to get even higher totals and maybe move up the rankings even more.

They are talking about two different records.

This snowfall is the biggest single storm since 1895. (that covers the first two references, biggest since 1895, therefore 1895 is larger).

The third reference is for a whole month of November; this single storm dumping enough snow to make it into a record for a whole month (at the fourth spot). If Chicago sees more snow in November, which it might, Colorado is expecting more snow next week, it might move even higher on that record.

Lake Erie is 50 deg. Doesn’t look out of the norm according to this website.

Yup. Not an exaggeration.

He also did a geography test segment. You can imagine the results. Hopefully some clips will be up on YouTube soon.

Chicago gets its largest November snowfall in 120 years.

97% of scientists agree that this fact fits into one of two categories:

1. Global Warming.
2. Climate Change.

Hmmmm. This is a toughie. I think the 97% will go with Climate Change.
