The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

How cold are your winter lows? I would look for some old blankets to cover them at night
I take my extra chard, coarsely chop and lightly saute in some olive oil in a covered skillet. I let cool and use my foodsaver vacuum sealer to bag up and freeze it in small portions, like for a pizza topping, or to add to some rice or pasta. Have many bags of that and baby bok choi in the freezer. Very handy to use and good nutrition.

I have been putting it in risotto - it’s my new favorite addition. I’ve stuffed it between layers of polenta and inside meatloaf too.
I need to get a vacuum sealer. Any advice on what I should look for? When I google it, ingest overwhelmed very quickly.
It’ll get to 23 tomorrow night. It can get into the single digits, but varies a lot.
I have sheets, but they are thin. I was worried blankets would be too heavy, but I do have a LOT of extra moving blankets!
Do you think sheets would be ok for then low 20’s, or should I use the moving blankets? I have cilantro, romaine, butter lettuce, and Swiss chard. And a little bit of thyme.
I really did my research on that. Best one and best deal is at the foodsaver site itself. They have a package with bags and a canning jar and wine sealer. I have model V4865. They have newer ones now. I would recommend one with the attachment for the canning jar sealers. I seal up rice, oats, quinoa, nuts. Works great.
23 would be a disaster here if we grew greens at this time of year. Gardening is a perpetual and lifelong learning experience.
On the surf board or the Jet Ski? The answer is NO to either one as I only feel safe in the shower...

yeah, I ended up covering them last night and will harvest today.
I just hated the thought of not having a garden any longer. It took a while for me to accept it, LOL!
I’m 82 and the years roll by too damm fast. It’s tough to even find time to clean the garden properly

I’ll be home on Black Friday. These is absolutely nothing that could make me go to the mall shopping.
Gardening pots doing well. I’m very pleased that the peas are doing so well in the bright indirect sunlight. Pansies blooming nicely. It has been raining all day and temperatures will drop into the 30’s. Think I’ll cover up the plants.
I managed to get some cleanup done in the garden over the weekend in spite of the weather. Tomato plants, peppers, basil and green beans are out. Weed-whacked the spaces where that stuff was growing. The ground is too wet to run the tiller so that will have to wait.
The cold nights have been unkind to my beets. The tops are pretty much done for now. The roots will keep much better in the ground than they would if taken out, so I guess I should toss some mulch on top of them.
I filled a bunch of half-gallon pots with potting soil and planted persimmon, sweet cherry and viburnum seeds. I set the pots in trays in the potting shed and gave them some water. Hopefully some of them will come up in the spring.
I didn’t get to the cold frame repair, but with a four day weekend coming up I should be able to get that knocked out.
Mrs. Augie shot a nice buck yesterday evening. I’ll butcher and pack him after I get off work today.
Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. I appreciate this thread and my Freeper gardening friends so much. We’re doing a small turkey tomorrow, just the 3 of us. Our daughter is coming over. Hubby is at chemo right now. He insisted on going himself this month and I just sighed to myself and didn’t put up a fuss. He had the long day chemo yesterday, and he comes home today with a servo motor injection taped to his arm that will deliver sometime tomorrow as the cancer center is closed for the holiday. He is doing really well and we have a LOT to be thankful for. Prayers for you all and safe travels too.
