The Russian air force conducted another massive strategic bomber raid on Daesh targets in Syria yesterday. As before, the Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack and Tu-95MS bombers played a prominent role, however, the supersonic Tu-22M3 Backfire bombers conducted the majority of the attacks.
âA squadron of Tu-22M3 long-range bombers made airstrikes against six ISIS facilities in the provinces of Raqqah and Deir Ezzor. They engaged depots with weapons and ammunition, mass concentrations of military hardware, training camps and workshops producing explosives,â reads a statement from the Russian defense ministry.

I remember the fear these bombers could serve as a nuclear bombers attacking the US because they were equipped with refueling probes. As part of arms reduction treaties the Soviets had to remove the probes.

My guess is that the Russian rules of engagement are as follows:

“Daesh” targets? Here we go trying to be politically correct and use Daesh instead of ISIS or Islamic Terrorist
To: C19fan
so they target vehicles, and facilities. it would be better to target the terrorists. they’l get more buildings and facilities. we need to target the people

PICTURES, people!
To: C19fan
It may be, but the goal is to use that term instead of “ISIS” as not to offend Muslims.

"Daesh" targets? Here we go trying to be politically correct and use Daesh instead of ISIS or Islamic Terrorist. EXACTLY!!!
And from The Week:
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a bit of a misnomer, says France, as it lends the imprimatur of Islam to a group that the vast majority of Muslims finds despicable.
... vast majority of muslims finds despicable? Where is this vast majority of muslims? When have they spoken out?

I agree, where is the Muslim population marching in protest of what ISIS is doing in the name of their religion? They seek out Individual Muslims who will claim Islam is a religion of peace, but for the last 20 years all terrorist attacks have been committed by Muslims in the name of Islam. But the media, dem’s and libs want to trot out this fantasy that there are also Christian terrorist like Mcveigh or some of the school shootings. No one has shown that any of those acts were committed in the name of a Religion. But it doesn't matter, we have to protect Islam the ROP.

Actually, it is an acronym for an Arabic phrase;
"Dawlat al-Islamiyah f'al-Iraq w Belaad al-Sham"...which is the full Arabic term for what English speakers translate as the Islamic State.
Daesh is the new ISIS. I don't think it is a derogatory term since Obama and Kerry are using it.

That’s what the F-14 Tomcat was designed to do....engage these bombers from long range. Not sure the F-18 Hornet can fulfill that role as effectively.
