Doug Flutie's parents both passed away within an hour of each other Wednesday after being married for 56 years, the former NFL quarterback said on Facebook.
Flutie said that his father, Dick, had been ill and died of a heart attack in the hospital. Less than an hour later, Dick Flutie's wife, Joan, suddenly had a heart attack and also passed away.
"They say you can die of a broken heart and I believe it," Flutie said. "I would like to honor my parents for all that they did throughout my and my brothers' and sister's lives. My parents were always there for their children, from the days my Dad coached us as kids and my Mom would work the concession stands, through to this morning."

The beautiful tale of Baucis and Philemon come to life and death
Doug, you were a great QB! I remember that hail Mary you threw when you at BC. That was the highlight of BC’s greatness...:-)
The last time BC football was relevant, especially in New England. (At the time BC was the only D1/FBS team in New England, now UConn and UMass are and BC isn’t great anymore...)
wow, god bless him and his family.
Wow.
God bless them and their heirs and family.
Prayers for the family.
Deja vu Patrick Duffy.
Similar thing happened to friends parents on Christmas Eve a few years ago. The husband went out to warm up the car. When he was backing up to the door, he ran over his wife. He got out to help her, not putting it into park, probably not thinking clearly, and the car moved back more and ran over him too while he was trying to help her. They were both in their 80’s and both died that night.
Oh my God. RIP and condolences to Doug Flutie. :(
My first thought: Foul play or outright murder.
Two heart attacks causing death? Probability?
Prayers up to quote my late father gettin old aint for sissies
