I thought he did the farewell show of Prairie Home Companion about 15 years ago.

The biggest news to come out of this story for me is that The Prairie Home Companion is still on the air.

" I mean, nobody retires anymore. Writers never retire. But this is my last season. This tour this summer is the farewell tour." Yeah, I can imagine him saying it just like that.

The only time I have ever heard his name was when they made fun of him on The Simpsons. The show’s creator is a big fan and I don’t think he liked that..

The world would be better off if that smarmy POS would retire to a mountain top, above the treeline, and try to live off his survival skills.

Without Googling it, I think he did, and moved to Europe for some period of time (I think).

    I never understood his appeal.
The show itself has great musical guests-particularly if you enjoy folk music-but him and his inane sketches are unlistenable.

I listen for the music. He often has great classical musicians and choirs too. The only bit I find consistently funny are some of the messages written by or to the audience members he reads at the beginning of the second hour.

He has a short little bit that plays on NPR, “The Writer’s Almanac”. Smarmy pap, which ends with him reading some obscure poem.
Horribly unlistenable (I’m in a van pool). He whistles his ss’s like that beaver in “Winnie the Poo”.

I’m another that never understood the appeal. The one article I read, probably pimping the movie, said he wife was a Dane, and he was singing the praises of Denmark at the time, how much better Danish society was than the US’s, etc.

That and the fact that garrison Keillor is still alive!
