David Horowitz was born in Forest Hills, New York, on January 10, 1939, the year of the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact, which shattered the illusions of many Communists and other members of the progressive left. But Horowitz's school teacher parents, Blanche and Phil, remained steadfast in their commitment to the Party. They had met in Communist meetings in the early 1930s and engaged in what turned out to be a lifelong "political romance," as David later described it in his autobiography, Radical Son, thinking of themselves as "secret agents" of the Soviet future.

Dissecting the left's hypocrisy now became a Horowitz metier. As a former believer, Horowitz could attack the progressive myth with the familiarity of an insider. He and Collier delivered their first stunning blow in Destructive Generation: Second Thoughts About the Sixties, a 1989 book in which they analyzed the legacy of the New Left and its corrosive effects on American culture.

“Radical Son” was great!
Yep, Horowitz is one of my heroes since reading Radical Son.
He outed Huey P. Newton as the murdering pimp he really was.
He also offers great insight into why the left loves violent groups like the Panthers, Weather Underground and Islamists.
I’ve had the good fortune to meet David Horowitz on a couple of occasions, and he is as dedicated and articulate a conservative culture warrior as the best. He’s incredibly well read, and has a laser focus on the truth that permits no tepid compromises.
Oh, my God! I thought he died.
Radical Son - one of the most wonderful memoirs I’ve ever read. Painful, so painful.
He knows exactly what Obama means when he says he wants to “fundamentally transform America.”

Iâd also recommend his book, The End of Time, “an at times heart-catching departure from the polemics and social criticism that have made Horowitz one of our most controversial public intellectuals, THE END OF TIME is a lyrical meditation on subjects ranging from what parents inadvertently teach us in their deaths, to the forbidding realities of the cancer ward...”
I might add it contains some of the most inspired and inspiring writing I have had the pleasure of encountering.
Those violent groups were Leftists themselves. Both were communist. Maoist to be precise.
Amen. Left Illusions is good too. I really like this guy. Heard him speak at a
Jewish center in Cleveland once. So good.

I think he is very insightful
I also read Radical Son when it first came out. Great book.
I still lend it to people. It always comes back with jaw dropping comments from the borrower. I think Horowitz is a gift to our side.
Another example of how well worth Free Republic is of my monthly donations.
Hint hint...
that made me smile. that should be worth a $50 donation.

I thought the same thing! Whew! So glad to learn he's still alive and kicking liberal butt. :)
I will ping him since he is registered here. David used to visit/comment occasionally but there were generally six posters that had to tell him that as a former leftist he couldn’t say anything that they couldn’t nit pick. He grew tired of it and quit commenting.
Brilliant fellow. Frontpagemag.com is his site.
