Pastor and former New Orleans police officer Willie Littleton could face up to 15 years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal Tuesday (Nov. 10) for shooting a suspected copper thief outside his Algiers church in August 2014.
Littleton, 63, was set to face trial on a charge of attempted manslaughter. Instead, he accepted the prosecutors' offer to plead guilty to aggravated second-degree battery. Littleton faces a prison term ranging from zero to 15 years when he returns Jan. 11 for sentencing before Orleans Parish criminal court Judge Robin Pittman.
The agreement included prosecutor Bonycle Thornton stating in court that the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office would not oppose probation for Littleton. Pittman ordered a pre-sentencing investigation into Littleton's background that she will used to help determine his sentence.
Littleton's attorney, W.J. LeBlanc, declined to comment on his client's plea or on the case before a sentence is handed down.
Littleton was scheduled to go on trial Tuesday for attempted manslaughter, a charge punishable by 10 to 50 years upon conviction.

Was the suspected copper thief actually a copper thief or misidentified as such?
Since it was a church, maybe it was a copper clapper caper.
He was probably a copper thief- churches down here in FL have been plagued by people destroying air conditioners just to get at the copper tubing.
Thieves destroyed two of our church’s brand new AC units worth several thousand bucks just to make a little on the stolen copper. They hit a bunch of churches over a few days in two or three counties.
A guy really ought to be able to shoot thieves. I view it as a disincentive for future acts.
Does the Lincoln belong to the cop or the preacher?
Thanks. I have not seen that in awhile. Always good for a laugh.
Only in Texas.
In Virginia we have a “duty to retreat”, I can’t legally shoot until I’m cornered.
Most likely the Preacher.
If it was night, can you shoot a copper thief in Louisiana?
Indeed, criminals dying in the commission of their crimes (at the hands of their intended victims) isn’t a bad thing.
That goes for rioters and looters especially.
Oddly, some of the same people I’ve encountered who maintain that you should not be able to kill a criminal in the commission of a crime over mere property will, when pressed on abortion, finally fall back on her body:her property.
Sounds to me like the Pastor deserves a commendation rather than jail time.
Ain’t that the truth?!
Awww I don’t think that’s funny.
Guess that makes me a copper clapper caper carper!
lol
Wow!
Thieves are now considered “protected class”.
Well, those snowball stands must make pretty good money in the ‘hood.
Unbelievable. The prosecutors and cops are worse than the criminals. They ARE the criminals.
Whoever wrote this isn’t local. Louisiana only has Snoball stands, not snowball stands.
