MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) â It is âOrange Friday.â That means in just a few hours, more than half a million Minnesotans will head to the outdoors for the opening of deer hunting season.
It is a long-standing Minnesota tradition. The Department of Natural Resources says it expects this yearâs deer harvest to be relatively low, between 140,000 and 155,000 deer.
But that is not stopping die-hard Minnesotans from sticking with tradition and heading out for the weekend hunt.

Not at my house. I’ve got about 10 head of 10 pointers laying in the back yard right now. Common occurrence.

I look at hunting season as a chance to take a break from having to do all the killin’ while the reserves come in to handle the task.

I used to enjoy the long ride down 94 watching all the trucks and cars with deer in the backs or on the tops of them. “Dad, look, there is a 12 pointer!”

500,000 strong well armed irregular militia in Minnesota alone. How large of a federal force would it take to disarm them? Is it any wonder why Washington fears the 2nd amendment?

And all of them trained marksmen and light infantry.

Gosh, 500.000 individuals armed with those nasty guns! And that’s just the hunters.

Do they have blind hunting in Minn.? They must. America Disabilitys Act says that blind people have to be able to hunt too. ;o)
A friend of mine said that in Minn. they publish in the local paper, how many deer have been taken each week. They also note how many hunters have been shot. Sometimes the deer are winning.

Trouble with Minnesota is that the deer season is too short. Minnesota has a bad deer overpopulation problem. A lot of vehicle-deer collisions, deer getting into buildings, messing with farms, even changing natural habitats by overgrazing. The solution is not another government program, just lengthen the season and allow the harvesting of more venison. Surprising that up there the food pantries are now accepting game.
