My son is 19 and has struck out on his own for the big city. He is not prepared for this; he has no experience with the city, is young for his age, and has not made plans. He figures he will find work and a place to stay and has no idea how hard this will be, or how expensive things are.
He has been without direction and he felt as if he had to take a drastic step to achieve independence and his own life.
He is staying in touch, checking in with us. He has the Covenant House number and address. He says he will ask for help and come home if he needs to.
I don't fear that he's planning suicide, drugs, or to join the gay community. Just that he is way, way over his head. And emotionally fragile.
Please pray for his safety.
And please pray for me: I am so scared I want to cry or vomit. I want to launch him into the world - I have launched older children - but not like this.
Don't hover.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
Psalm 91:1-3,
"And I give them eternal life; they will never come to destruction, and no one will ever take them out of my hand."
John 10:27-28
"But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one."
2 Thess 3:3
"And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen."
2 Timothy 4:18
Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower"
Psalm 18:2
We beseech You O Lord,
We come boldly asking for Your divine safety and protection over this young man. You instructed us to always pray, for You are able to keep, take care of, and bring to pass the things that we commit unto You in prayer. Lord, we commit all things into Your hands. We pray that You would assign strong and mighty angels to watch over this young man in all his endeavors. May You encamp him in a hedge of protection to keep safe in all his ways.Father, thank You for the power and authority that You have given us over the devil and over every evil and demonic spirit; and with that authority, We do bind Satan, every principality, and every spirit of weakness from hurting or harming those who belong to You, in any way, by the authority of the name of Jesus Christ.
No weapon formed against those who belong to You shall prosper. You instructed us to cast our cares and our worries upon You, and You would sustain us. Therefore as praying intercessors, we cast this young man's cares and worries upon You. Prayers extended for his family that they may receive your grace in the form of comfort, peace and knowledge that you are God of all. We are confident, that according to Your word, You shall sustain and keep all safe. Your word says You are faithful to keep us from all evil.
Because we trust in You to watch over this young man his friends and all loved ones. We thank You for allowing Your peace to rest upon us and their every concern. Thank You and praise You for victory in Christ Jesus .
Let it be done in Your glory, Lord.
We praise and glorify Your name,
Amen
Amen. Beautiful prYer.
Prayers for your son and family.
Now, I, too have seen the other side of that as a parent and grandparent.
God provides.
Indeed He does. God bless you!
You're both in my prayers
May God bless you, your son, and all whom you hold dear. May He allow your son to recognize the moment he needs help, if in fact he does need help. May He grant you peace in the meantime.
I feel your pain and can imagine being in a similar predicament someday
If you can add his first name ? At any rate will say a prayer fir you and him
Tears
You are so not alone. This upcoming generation (I have 2 in their early 20's) is lost and floundering. Mine are struggling and have both decided to get counselling. Your son will be in my thoughts, as well.
great testimony. thank you...we have 2 in their early 20’s and struggle with how to help them find their way. Prayers, prayers, and more prayers. thank you.
Wow, I had to brush away a tear.
A VERY big plus for the kid is that he KNOWS he’s got to get going and jump start things. Also: At his time of life it is appropriate that he doesn’t quite know what he is up against. The world is full of very successful people who thank God every day that they didn’t know how truly hard what they set out to do was.
Prayers are up for your Son and you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FATHER GOD,
We thank You for Your only Son JESUS, Who won the victory! Thank You for being our PROVIDER,PROTECTOR and a STRONG FORTRESS to Whom we run. You, GOD, know when each sparrow falls and have clothed the lilies of the field. Nothing is too big for You! There is no god like You!
FATHER GOD, You hear our prayers and answer our prayers. You keep each tear that falls in a bottle in remembrance and bend down to listen as we pray.
FATHER GOD, send Your mighty angels to protect and minister to Heartwood’s son. If it is Your will for this young man to venture off to a big city with no plan, may he ask You for a plan; then may You open doors of opportunity for him. Bring a Spirit-filled Christian into his life who can give him wise counsel.Give Heartwood’s son common sense to come home if living in New York is not Your will for his life.
Thank You for answering the prayers of the many mothers who have gone through this very same situation and know Your promises are true. We are in agreement for a successful outcome for Heartwood’s son.
Give Heartwood peace of mind, knowing that You are in control of this situation.

Praying for you both.
