NEW YORK (AP) -- Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the sudden and catastrophic breakup of a Metrojet plane Saturday over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, just 23 minutes after the Russian-operated jetliner took off from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

WOMD from 2009 / 2010 .... that didn’t (don’t) exist
Another theory I just saw on Facebook: It could have been shot when it was at a lower altitude by something that didn’t destroy the plane immediately.
Aliens?
Aliens?
I don't believe anything they say. Who knows what isis picked up in Iraq after we pulled out?
Maybe the pilot was getting drunk during the flight while getting their typical BJ and dropping bombs when something went wrong?
Was Hillary’s back up of her email server on board?
Unplanned contact with earth?
It’s one of these scenarios:
A: SAM or Air-To-Air Missile Strike
B: Bomb Onboard
C: Loss of Control by Pilot’s Due To Pilot Error or Failure of Computerized Fly-By-Wire System Leading to Loss of Control
D: Structural Failure Due To Faulty Maintenance Practices or Previous Damage to Airframe
The “Black Boxes” can provide the answers to the above scenarios. But this is Russia....
Having been to Sharm where the plane took off from, and seeing the folks there, it is very likely that the baggage loaded on the plane has something extra in it. Either timed or altimeter triggered.
Since the tail of the aircraft separated, the structural integrity of the airframe failed - most likely from rupture. At cruising altitude, there is a huge pressure differential.
Yup. Like the rest of the Third World, tarmac security is a joke. Half the baggers are probably ISIS or Al-Qaeda.
Either timed or altimeter triggered
Also dead on. I vote altitude triggered: it appears to have happened as they reached ~ FL300. Simple pressure differential detonator, set to typical cruise altitude pressure difference.
Explains everything, and is simplest: it's no accident that something like this happens to a Russian airliner in that part of the world at this point in history.
I don’t know Arabic, but to me it is telling that ISIS claimed that it “downed” or “brought down” the plane, without revealing operational details. My interpretation is: bomb on board.
The airline of the jet that crashed into the Sinai had not paid its staff in over two months, Russian news agencies have reported.
The widow of the doomed jet’s co-pilot, Sergey Trukhachov, said that he had not been paid for three months.
No kidding! Tarmac security over there is scary!!
I watched a burka clad woman (?) board an aircraft with only slits in her headdress for eyes - no baggage check - and was horrified.
The Sinai is a mess...
Motive and opportunity for bribery! Nice catch.
The plane was flying at 31,000 feet but what is the elevation of the surface over which it was flying? The SA-8, which I believe ISIL has, can reach over 25,000 feet.
Sounds like a short in the Center Fuel Tank to me...
Obama essentially handed ISIS a pile of Stinger missiles. More than sufficient to take down a civilian plane.
Putin knows this. The retribution will be Biblical. Literally.
Stinger missiles are effective up to 11,500 feet altitude. The plane was at 33,500 feet before crashing.
Ok, now here is one of the issues.
Throughout the last few days, the altitude of the plane seems to have risen about 5,000 feet. I haven’t seen a definitive altitude.
But that is a ASL altitude, not AGL. If the plane was climbing to 30,000 and was over a mountain that was 8000’ it cuts the range down significantly.
